Just wondering what people think about filling up the diesel and gas tanks..
Should we wait or fill them up now?

At the station I buy gas at in my home town (upstate SC) I bought gas today at $1.82 per gallon. They have a fuel oil(red die off road) pump next to the gas pump, and it was $1.13 per gallon. I don't know what price fuel oil is from a jobber, but it might pay to fill up now, at least with that stuff.

Well, I've found that if you have something that runs on gas or diesel and the tank is empty, it won't run.

I ponder the same question with LPG heating fuel.

I typically have my tank filled in July. I expect I'll gamble and do that again. LPG have futures remained rather steady from last summer until late winter, then have been edging up some. They are only 5¢ or 6¢ over last years--wonder what if the dealer is holding to that increase? Any bets?

I have them fill my on and off road diesel tanks every 30 days (except May and June, get my off road tank filled weekly), regardless of price. I need it, am going to use it, or shut down all together if it gets too high.

It seems to take a long time for many people to realize that the white house is full of oil people. Even with war on Iraq. Am I the only one who was sitting in front of the TV , when old man Bush said to the american people "We are going over to Iraq because of the interest we have in the oil" WOW! , he never said that again. No one seems to think there is any link between old man Bush , and little Bush. They hardly even peep the word "Oil". Yet american companies are over in Iraq at this moment , rebuilding the oil fields. This whole deal with Iraq is control of the flow of oil. Many Bush follower seemed to have thought the price of gas was going to come down after this deal of Bush going into Iraq , due to the so called weapons of mass destruction. I would think to myself , how blind can these people get. They just can't read between the lines , and think for them selves. I wonder what they think now.

Did you notice that refineries are the only industry that has to shut down for scheduled maintenance during peak production times? All other industries seemed to figure out how to work 24/7.

Hi Dan,

I'm waiting as the news said the Saudies are pushing for a OPEC 3/4million barrel per/day production increase in the June meeting. That should bring down fuel oil prices.

There is some talk that crude could go to $50 a barrel,if that happens we are in serious trouble as everything relies on oil during its production or transport,it could trigger a world recession.I dont believe there is a shortage of oil, just speculators controling the market.time to park the gas gussler?

I don't know what anybody expected, when the guvment let all the oil companies merge- seems that the Sherman Anti-Trust Act ain't worth the paper it's printed on.

I don't claim to be a financial genius, in fact, I'm not very smart at all. It seems to me this world needs a recession. Too many people are spending their money like it grows on trees. Prices on everything have seemed to sky rocket for the past couple years. Personally, I scrimp and save every chance I get, but I'm not any better off now than I was 4 or 5 years ago.

To answer the original question, yes, I would fill the tanks now. I don't think the price of fuel will drop below what it is now until late fall, if ever. Even then it will only be temporary. The oil companies will have another excuse to jack the price up again. Probably it will be something like this - "it costs more to blend winter gasoline, due to the extra additives."

Why can't they just tell the truth and say "We're greedy SOB's and we'll keep on raising prices, because the American public can't get organized enough to do anything to stop us."

I've read here that gas only has a shelf life of 30 days because it's not made to last. I don't know about diesel, So I guess it's a catch 22, buy lots of gas and throw it out, then buy fresh in a few months to run all your machinery.
They gotcha.

Don't buy the new Ford and they want $100,000,000 of our tax $$$$ (I wonder if that is in US funds) or their going to set up in another country where wages and taxes are less. I wonder if and how much these huge companies pay in land taxes, then compare it to the average persons proerty taxes.

On top of gouging at the pumps what tax breaks do the big oil companies get.

Even our own Prime Minister owns a shipping co. and all the ships have foreign registry to save tax $$$$$.

Greed and more GREED

In addition to your great response, I expect another refinery will blow up soon so they have an excuse to raise the price even more.
