I am in the process of evaluating an International. I was told that it was a 584 but after a look over I found the birth plate and it is now an 884. Can someone tell me about this tractor (HP, advice)? It is in running order but is a little beat-up cosmetically (all sheet metal, no lights, dash panel, some rust). It appears that the tach is not working and I haven't run it to see if the hours are correct (1800 on display). Needs a new front rim and tire. The serial number is B650005B000884 X. Any help would be appreciated. It's selling for around $1500 US. This may be my first tractor and the primary use will be bush-hogging.

Buy it, if you don't want to keep it, I'll give you $1600 for it.

If it runs, and everything works, $1500 is a STEAL on that tractor. However, that is if you intend on this being a work tractor and not a "showing the friends your new toy" tractor. We run a 484, and it is a great machine. By far one of the best utility tractors we've had. Now, a TA is short for Torque Amplifier. What that does is basically cut your speed in half, so you have the same rpms at a lower speed. This is meant to be done on the fly, no clutch or anything. Very handy for heavy work or steep hills. It should be a handle on the left side of your dash.

The downside of that 884 is that it is a big tractor in the utility field. The mowers are gonna need to be kinda big, and the bigger you get, the more things cost to buy, maintain and repair. Also, should your tractor break down, can you trailer it to a dealership? It is a large tractor, especially compared to other utility tractors. This is an important factor if you do not have the time or resources to make repairs yourself.

Anyway, drive it around a little if you can. If it feels right and you like it, buy it because you'll regret it if you let it go for 1500.

Good luck. It's probably a great machine.

Good utility tractors with 72 pto hp. Does it have a T-A? If so how does it shift? Is the shifter inline or in an H-pattern? Could be a very good price..... .or.....

I am new to the tractor world so I don't know what a T-A is. It has 4 gears in an H pattern 1 - 4 and next to it is the forward and reverse straight shift.
