need some advice on a john deere 2030. is this a good reliable tractor. what hp, when were they made. is this one of the overseas models.. are they good for loader work. i will be trying some of the sites to find this type of info. i think some first hand experience would be the better way. i heard that the 1010's ans 20 series were not the best. what were some of the major problems common to this model.. thanks to all for your help.

I have a 2030 that I really like. It is a 60 hp well balanced tractor that handles nicely. Apparently JD corrected many of the earlier problems of the 10 and 20 series. Mine pulls a 1002 NH bale wagon, rakes/tedders, a 9ft JD 1209 moco, and on occassion a 12ft disk and cultipacker for light disking. I tried pulling a JD 920 disk moco but the temperature ran to the red line. I also used to pull a 16ft litter spreader until it pushed me down a hill sideways. The only thing I was told to watch out for is cavitation of the cyliner liners. I added coolant conditioner to the antifreeze. Check out machinerylink.com for specs and prices.

I don't think there is any way to check for cavitation without pulling the engine apart. Before buying mine I looked for water in the oil and for oil in the antifreeze. Also look for bubbles in the antifreeze which would indicate compression is getting in the cooling system. Best bet is to talk to the owner and look at the maintenance records if possible.

Just to be safe use the diesel antifreeze additive in all diesels. It is a lot cheaper than replacing sleeves, etc...
