Can anyone tell me the wiring for an alternator with the two wire plug? This one has replaced a generator and is a cobbled up mess and does not show any movement on the amp meter. I checked the voltage at the battery and it is charging but I want to get it working right.

I just did that job on an 861D Ford. On the left side of this page, go to Research and Info and click on Articles. There are several very helpful ones on this subject.

First of all, what make and model of alternator? And, if it's a Delco, does the two prong plug plut into the top or into the back? If the top, I'll assume it's a 10 or 12si with the internal regulator. If it plugs in back, it needs an external regulator. So, not having any idea what you have, the wiring for the most popular used on tractors - the Delco with internal reg. and two-prong plug that plugs in on top - #1 goes to switched 12 volts positive, and #2 goes to full-time 12 volts postive, and the big pole is the charge output.

Sorry about that, it is a delco, top 2 wire plug. They have the right side wire hooked to the output post and the other wire does come hot when the switch is turned on. So what wire should go up to the amp meter and where should the wire out of the amp meter go? It is on a 1600 Oliver. Thanks for the reply!

Sounds like a Delco with internal regulator. The left(#1) wire should be hot when the switch is on only. The right(#2) wire should go to the Bat stud on the alternator rear. The BAT output stud should go to one side of the amp guage along with any accessory wires,so it should have 2 or more wires on the amp guage terminal. The other amp guage terminal should go to the battery, usually connected at the starter switch.
