With steel prices like they are, scrap seems to be going for a pretty good price around here. What are some of the going rates in your particular area?

Five week ago i sold car bodys at 95 a ton they came and crushed for me plus i was aloud five tires per body that got rid of 3500 tires
i got out 814 ton of bodys .
cast/engine blocks where 125 a ton cut steel 2feet and shorter 125 ton body went to 130 here in sw michigan now there at 75
I'm thinking it will go back up a little soon as some empty boats come back ! so I'm getting another 200 ton ready for the next wave.

I got rid of my junk this last week. Hauled it myself, and got about $25 a ton for it at the scrap yard for mixed metal.

In Texas the scrap places all have lines of trucks/trailers unload. Word spreads fast. I don't dare look at what they have loaded because I know they have things that I would want to carry home to store up and junk my place up more than it is. I just hold the petal down and drive eyes straight forward.

Cars were $2.10 a hundred Tuesday in Athens [Northeast Georgia]. The best thing I did was hold on to about 3 tons of stainless Steel I had, sold it 2 weeks ago for 35 cents a pound, $700.00 a ton.#1 copper was $1.00 a pound the same day.

About a month ago I sent several loads of US#2 heavy melt scrap steel mixed with <15% breakable castiron. It brought $125 a ton.

Called yesterday and scrap was off about $15 a ton from the peak.

As far as retail goes it seems the market is beginning to stabilize. My cost of new hot roll is running $.67 a pound. Tubing and plate at $.72. Aluminum is stabilizing, copper and nickel are still climbing, though.

I can't even find anyone to take mine. All I want is a little $ to help load.

I sold a load of scrap on Wednesday of this week in Austin, Texas. It brought $1 per hundred. I got $28 for 2,800 pounds--hardly worth the trouble to load and haul. The day before it was bringing $1.50 per hundred. What size would you have to have to get premium prices?
