Any one know how to test a glow plug relay while its off the motor. I have a B275 and I need a way to check the relay besides buying one.

Thanks

I don't remember what the original looks like. I replaced mine years ago with a Ford "fender mount" automotive starter relay; they cost about $7. I use the same relay on all my diesel trucks too. Cheap and reliable. Seems the original must have two big poles - one from the battery source and one to the glow-plug circuit (which is in series on the IH B-275). Then there should be either one, or two small terminals. One is to engergize the relay with low-draw 12 volt power. If there is another, it could be several things depending on the model of the relay. Some are NOT self-grounding, so the terminal must be grounded. Other's have the little terminal marked "R" for resistor, and is used for the ignition resistor bypass on gas engines. Just about any auto parts store or tractor parts store has the relays. YOu can buy them in part-time duty (like the Ford application), full-time duty, high amp draw, low amp draw, self-grounding, etc. Remember that with the IH B-275 - if that is the tractor you're working on, has all the glow-plugs are wired in series with the glow-plug resistor/indicator on the dashboard. If any of the connections are bad, or if any of the glowplugs are bad, nothing will work. It will take Champion #155 glow-plugs (the plugs will have an AG number, but the box will be numbered #155).
