Sandbagging

My definition of sandbagging is in some Antique Tractor classes there is a pace tractor, and some use a horn. A pace tractor sets a speed limit for the tractor to follow. Sandbagging is when a driver lags behind the pace tractor so that half way down the track they can pull at full power, which usually gives them ten feet or so ahead of those who don't.

Forget the pace tractor . Get a radar gun one of those that display the speed in letters to feet tall put it at the end of the track.

I don't get it! Why would you use a "pace tractor" to regulate the puller's speed down the track? Hook'em up and let 'em go! If a guy was wantin' use his throttle to it's full potential {adjusting to the conditions which change down the track} your pace tractor rules would screw that up!

Sounds rather ridiculous to me!

{Just My Opinion!}

And the term "sandbagging" implied to me, cheating on weight and/or distributions. Rather confusing in my opinion! Maybe you folks need a different term... how about "doggin' the pace tractor" {since you all are so tied up in knots about speedlimits!}

Never attended a pull event with a speed limit - once you stop moving, you are done. No wonder I didn't understand the term.

If the point of a tractor pull is to be the best puller, I'd not see a need for a pace tractor? Let everyone work their throttle as they pull, and get the best pull from the best tractor/driver? This would give everyone the extra 10' - equal footing - and one less issue to come up. Let the officials work on real issues?

I wouldn't understand your event with a speed limit?

Us the horn and forget the pace tractor. You will have a better pull and keep everybody honest.

Seems to me to be a smart way to pull if you can't match the power that everyone else has. It's not questioned where I pull. No wonder your group has problems.
