I am looking to buy a pressure washer for the purpose of cleaning tractors, implements and my vehicles. Can someone please advise on how much pressure I need for these tasks? Farm & Fleet has a 2300 psi/6 HP one, a 2400 psi/5 HP one, and a 2700 5 HP one. Which might be the better buy for my purposes?

Thank you.

Hello JKC,

I clean stuff for a living.

Heat (200 degrees) flow of 5 gpm, pressure 2000 psi. Would be a good machine for you to have for these projects. You can get electric units that have Lp burners so if you have a shop you could mount it there. If your source of water has low volume, you could install a surge tank to supply your pump.

I will include a link to my web page. I don't sell machines, we are only a service contractor. Feel free to contact me if you have more questions.

Look at hot water if you can afford it. If not try to use it on a water faucet that has both hot and cold and it will work just as good. Also, I suggest finding one that has easy adjustment of the pressure. This is realy helpful when you want to be gentle on things such as the paint on your car, but also want to take grease off stuff.

Welllll, I was where you are a while back, and I fell into a deal on a 5.5hp Honda powered unit rated at 2200psi and 3gpm. It has proven adequate for most all the tasks I have asked it to do, including greasy machines. I agree with the others, heated water would be the ideal for greasy situations, but that costs $$$. And as the others say, both pressure and volume are important. I probably need a new nozzle, as the origional one is worn substantially larger than it was new, resulting in noticable reduction in pressure! The Honda engine gets nothing but praise for it's service, easy starting, etc.

you are a hundred percent right i have had both hot an cold water washers an i would highly recommend a hot water or steam like mine is. get the highest gpm. you can get. you can always stop an let the tank fill back up, gives you a good chance to clean you glasses anyway. johndeeregene

Both GPM and presure are important. Hot water helps a lot also.

One important word of caution concerning GPM is make sure you have a adequate well if that is your situation. The well on my place will only put out 3 gpm so I am limited to this. Bought a 3gpm washer and well doesn't always keep up.

I am in NW Iowa so you don't have to be in a desert to have low water delivery. When I was looking at washers and I told the sales person I didn't want anything larger than 3gpm he hardly beleived me.

JKC,

The 6 hp rating is a fake, Motors over 1 hp
are 1 1/2 ,2 ,3, 5, 7 1/2 and 10 etc. Highly recommend a hot water , high pressure
washer as they are at least 10 times more effective
on dry hard grease. You need the heat to soften
the dry grease before you can remove it. I have had both hot and cold , never again will I have
a cold washer. The one I have now has a 3 1/2 gallon per hour fuel nozzel and I think the
water delivery is about 4 gallons , it likes
fuel but it's quite effective .
