A new dealer opened up near me selling these Mahindra tractors. Does anyone know about them? Are they any good or are they foreign junk? They look pretty beefy. Are there any owners out there with an opinion?

I bought a 3505DI about 2 years ago. Use on the weekend farm (50 ac.) and have put 364 hrs on it.
I have been clearing brush, small trees, mowing pasture and moveing dirt. Very rugged machine, runns great and no trouble. I think it was a good buy. Has a lot more steel in it than most tractors in its class.

Mahindra and IH had a joint venture and made tractors together back in the early 60s. I've got a 1960 B275 and it's been a pretty rugged little tractor. Manindra had been around for a long time; they were making Willys Jeeps overseas during WWII. One of the new Mahindra tractors is basically the same tractor as my 1960 B275, but now comes with a direct-injected engine and power steering.

I have heard they 1st started out manufacturing with International Harvester and that IH parts would interchange. Since IHC has changed hands I don't know what the connection would be now.

By "foreign junk" do you mean JD, NH, Macormick, etc? As far as I know, EVERY tractor under 50 HP is "foreign" made. I just had to say that. I wonder how much the army could save if they had their tanks made in China.

I hear you brother. That's why I looked at the 5003 series JD instead of the 4010 series. Funny thing it's twice the machine and it's cheaper. Dealer says those compacts are so popular, the prices are crazy. Plus the 5003 series is a REAL tractor and made in the USA.

Mahindra (India) is supposed to be the world's largest ( in number) manufacture of tractors.
India is very protectionist( we should be more than we are) and won't import goods & services. They will only manufacture "foreign" goods under license in country. India is the source of these Deere 5003 econo tractors as Deere couldn't get a piece of that market by any other way. They are not made in the US. The 5000 20 series and 4100 compact are assembled in the US. The 5000 05 series tractor is bolted together in the US as well. It's my 1st choice as a utility tractor in a MFWD. I'm not certain but it maybe related more to the excellent but discontinued 55 series from Mannheim Germany than the 5000 20 series. That 6603 looks similar to a 3155 Mannheim as well, not a problem at all if it is.

Wow, I had no idea. Thanks for the info. I stand corrected. Guess I should shop the 5000 05 series.
