teeth on flywheel

hi, i am restoring a 1948 farmall cub does anyone know if you can have someone sharpen the teeth on a flywheel or is it just bad and you have to have it replaced thanks for any help bill

Bill, you can easily do it yourself with a 4 or 4 1/2 inch hand grinder. The teeth will only be worn in 2 places opposite each other, and you can easily reshape them to approximately match the adjacent teeth. I reground the teeth on my 48 working cub about 9 years ago, and it has been working great ever since. Also check the teeth on the starter drive, they get blunt also. You can also remove the ring gear from the flywheel and rotate it 1/4 turn and reinstall, but the grinder is easier.
