Hey Guys,
A friend of mine brought over a new bushhog that
has 40 hp gearbox and I wanted to use it with my Case VAC which has 19 pto hp. Will the hp difference hurt my pto?

Thanks,
Warren

How about using say, an 80 hp John Deere with a 40hp rated brush hog. Is a shear pin the only thing likely to get broken?

I use a 6 foot Bushhog on my VAC and it works fine. An overriding PTO attachment is a must, though. I've used it on weeds but also use it to cut down corn stubble in the spring before plowing. I like using the VAC because of the gas engine, it's quiet. I have to wear ear-protectors with all my other tractors.

Your tractor is rated for the max it can put out.

the hog is rated for the max that it can take be4 tearing itself up.

Be sure the slip clutch/ shear pin is working, and it should work.

19 hp isn't much for serious brush hogging, you might bog down a lot. If so, you might want to rethink the combination before overloading your tractor. If your tractor seems to handle the grass you're cutting, have fun. :)

Case VAC's are known for having weak pto gears. Be careful on the turns, so that the pto isnt loaded too hard by the binding of the shaft in a tight turn.

Ditto the weak pto drive on the Case vac. Like Josh said, be careful not to bind the shaft. Joe

That is why I have learned to like 3 pt vs drag. 3pt stays aligned always and this eccentric behavior never happens.

Normally when you see the gearbox hp posted on literature, it is the maximum hp that the gear box can take without tearing it up, it is not the amount of hp needed to turn it, so you will do no damage to your 19hp tractor by puting a 40hp gearbox mower on it

Your in business.. The gearbox is rated for max. hp. If your Case (not a Case person) does not have independent pto, you might want to put a coupler on it so the spinning bush hog does not drive the tractor when you push in the clutch.

I ran that bushhog on a 8N for years, asked alot but did it :>
