This question isn't about a tractor, it's about my IH Loadstar truck that I haul tractors with. I'm re-building the V392 engine. When I took the heads off I found scale and rust that was bad enough that I want to get it cleaned out. I put the heads back on and have been running heated Permatex radiator flush through the system. It isn't doing a thing. Appears to be just more weekend handyman junk from Pep Boys. Can some of you guys tell me what chemicals the pros use for this and where I can get them? Thanks.

I've had good luck using a couple tablespoons of dry (the kind you use in a dishwasher, not hand wash,) dishwasher detergent. Put dry detergent in, fill with water, run it a few hours, drain, repeat until no more sludge and dirt comes out.

Last time I had to clean a cooling system was a V8 in a boat running raw seawater. Corroded it bad enough the engine was overheating.
Filled the system up with COKE COLA, yup Coke. Let it set all day then flushed it out--did an excellent job.

To clean a cooling system I use a vinegar/water mix it works well and it isn't hard on the system either. I use 70% vinegar and 30% water, then run it that way for a day or so then flush with water.

Take alook at this link. The second post by "bowtiebandit" lists an acid flush with some special powder you mix. I guess use at your own risk. Suppose to be very powerful.

I read most of that before I fell asleep. If you follow that to the letter it would be faster and easier (but not cheaper) to replace the radiator and heater core.:)

Not sure about that. For most of those cars, you have to remove the entire dash to get to the core.
