I saw several postings on using Uhaul for a tractor, some pro some not. Has anyone had experience hauling a 8N tractor on a Uhaul trailer? Thanks.

As for renting a trailer you would probably be ok but check for the dimentions of the trailer first to be sure that the tractor will fit. Having said that I would NEVER EVER RENT FROM UHAUL AGAIN!! I helped my inlaws move up from Florida to Ohio and that was the trip from hades in that Uhaul truck. I have never seen so many things break on one vehicle in five days. (Yeah, FIVE DAYS to get to Oh. from Fla.) Then when they called the corporate office to complain about it they blamed them for taking the truck in that condition. (And it was'nt even the truck they where promised.) Anyway to much stuff happened to tell it all here, I'll just say that 20/20 did a show on how bad the companys equipment was. Rent from Hertz-Penske or Ryder.

I used a U-Haul car carrier trailer to carry my 801-D 400 miles one way about 5 months ago. It cost me 49.95 for a 24 hour rental. Went up empty and hauled the tractor back.(800 miles in one day. boy that was a trip) They asked what I would be hauling and since I had heard the storys on this board I told them a 1958 Ford. They asked what model ford and I told them I did not know as I was hauling for my dad. I did think about what I would say if I had blown a tire but luckly I did not have to find out.
Since then I have noticed that the rent all stores in my area that rent bobcats and such have 16 ft trailers for rent. Think if I had to do it again I would get one from them as these trailers are made to haul equiptment.

I used a UHAul car trailer to tow mine on. At the time there was nothing asked about what I was hauling and nothing offered. 29.00 one day round trip rental. I have seen posted that some dealers have to know what you are hauling if so just tell them it's a Ford. The tire straps will fit the front 19" tires and double chain or strap the back pur it in first and lock the brakes. It weighs 2410# dry with air filled tires and no wheel weights.

Somebody told me that you should leave it in neutral. The rocking back and forth on that one gear tooth is bad for it. Just my .02

Always put her in gear. Putting the tractor in low gear keeps movement down. If chains were to break she wouldn't roll as easy.

Uhaul also has a 6x12 open utility trailer which fits a ford nicely. it does not have ramps, rather a tailgate- but my automotive ramps worked fine. this trailer is cheaper and has 18" metal sides, handy if you have some odd parts to carry as well.
