Sorry to keep going on about this, but I'm having trouble figuring out what my tractor problem is. I need some advice what to try next.

The tractor will run fine, then up and die. When it dies I can give it more fuel and save it some times, but it will run rough, or sometimes I can give it some choke. When it dies, if I try to restart right away it won't. If it let it set a minute it will restart. I soft of have the impression that the longer it sits the longer it will run (that means on my first run I get way out there, then it dies). My impression now is that it is running out of fuel, although people always say that fuel problems are probably an ignition problem. When it won't start, I get spark at the plugs.

What I did so far along the lines of ignition problem is...

Replaced battery cables and ignition switch. cleaned and redid all electrical contacts. Replaced and checked points and condenser. Replaced coil. New AL437 plugs about 5 running hours ago. Topped off battery charge.

What I did along lines of fuel problem is... Checked for gas ;) Took off fuel line from carb, plenty of fuel runs out into a can; steady stream. Carb inlet screen is clean, and I replaced it to be sure. I recently had my carb off and cleaned it.

What do you think, take the carb apart next? clogged jet?
Appreciate any ideas, thanks!

Bryan

I told you what is cheap and dirty to determine which it is. When it dies squirt it in the mouth with starting fluid. If it likes it problem is fuel. If it ignores it, problem is ignition.

Could the vent in the gas cap be plugged creating a vaccume in the tank. You could try running with the cap loose and see if it helps.
