I am interested in buying a Farmtrac 60,70 or 80 model tractor. It seems to be a good deal for the money. I want to know if anyone can give me any feed back on reliability and parts availablity? My dad bought a mahindra and the oil leaks started the first 6 months, I wonder if Farmtrac is the same quality? Any help is appreciated.

A year ago a friend purchased Farmtrac 70 for raking,mowing.ect.farm chores. He has had nothing but troubles with it.Fuel leaks, leaking rear main seal, plus oil pan and valve cover gaskets leaking.Only good thing he has to say about the tractor is that its easy on fuel.He told me is thing about trading for Case IH or F.N.H.Could just been built on Fri. or Mon.Just makes me wonder if all of them are not this way.Since they are so cheap!I would by name brand.Just my $.02.

I have a Farmtrac 60 and I am an active duty military officer with no affiliation with Long/Farmtrac.

I don't know anything about the 70 or 80 but they look like nice tractors. They, the 70 and 80, are I believe in their first year so just as with cars some problems should be expected. Also, just like with cars I think having a good dealer is important.

The reasons I bought my Long Farmtrac 60 is that the model is established (see previous post on older Farmtrac 60), I like the dealer (14 miles from my place), and the dealer's place is clean and well established.

I bought my tractor late last year with a Long loader, a 6ft Bushhog and a box blade. I've used the tractor for loader work, plowing, disking and brush hogging on my small 40 acre place in eastern NC. The shifter was stiff when new but now that the transmission has "run in" it is much better.

During routine maintenance here are all the very minor problems I've found:
- The toplink locking lever was found to be broken on delivery and was immediately replaced by the dealer. - A small power steering fluid leak that was fixed by tightening a connection (15 minute job done by my Dad).
- A dust cap come off of the front axle trunion after bushhogging in very heavy brush (20 ft tall pines and pocosin brush). - One grease fitting came off of the loader
- One small 1/2 inch rubber bumper off the front hood area.
- One of the rear tire valve stems is slightly bent...probably caused while brushhogging.
- I replaced the seat belt with a retractable model

The tractor is tough and reliable. The fit and finish is excellent. I would buy another one and intend to keep the one I have. I've attached a picture of the tractor when almost brand new. It looks the same today.

Thanks,
Jim

I HAVE A FARMTRAC 60 STANDARD SHIFT. THE GEAR SHIFT LOCKS ITSELF IN 1ST OR REVERSE, YOU HAVE TO TAKE THE TOP OF THE TRAN. COVER OFF AND PUT THE TRANY GEARS ALL BACK IN TO NEUTRAL AND THEN REINSTALL THE COVER. TRACTOR DEALER SAYS IT IS MY FAULT BECAUSE OF THE WAY I SHIFT. TO ME I THINK IT IS A MANIFACTURE DEFALT. BECAUSE I HAVE A FORD 3000 AND IT DOES NOT DO IT. THE FARMTRAC IS JUST AN OLD FORD. DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND DO YOU KNOW OF A FIX FOR IT. I THINK THE SHIFT LEVER IS NOT LONG ENOUGH AND IT SLIPS OUT. THANKS TEX

We have a modle 60, have had it for 5 or 6 years, thinks it's the greatest. just like our Ford 3910, We have had 0 problems with ours. I am looking for a 70 right now. I would be interested in talking to either you or your friend more about this tractor.

That's what I was afraid of. Leaks for the gaskets. The Mahindra was made in India and that is the biggest problem with it, oil leaks and fuel. Thanks for the input, any others will be great. Does anybody have any comments on Used JD. I am looking for a 50-70 HP AWD, any models to stay away from?

Thanks
