Cleaning gunk out of engine

I discovered that my bobcat's engine has a lot of oil "gunk" on the bottom of the oil pan. Normally, I would drop the pan and clean it...problem with this is...I have to remove the engine from the machine to access the oil pan. This appears to be a significant amount of work, and while I understand that it would be the "best" way to remove it, I would prefer to find a way to flush most of the stuff out. I have been soaking it with kerosine, and flushing through the engine, but does anyone know of a better way or oil system flush I could use??

My intention now is to use a hose and air pressure to spray kerosine into the oil pan from the oil plug drain hole in an effort to " flush" the gunk out, then run new oil and filter for 20 minutes, then drain, flush again, and refill with oil and new filter for a longer run. ( maybe a few hours on this oil) before changing again.....

I am looking for any better ideas.....short of removing the engine...

You should run engine atleast untill it reaches operating temperature before draining oil for an oil change. Circulating the oil before draining will stir up some of the loose stuff so it can drain out. This helps to decrease the amount of sluge that will build up in an engine. Also, changing at the right time instead of waiting to long will help also. Also, some oils are worse about building up sluge than others. These are just some preventative steps for what you have gotten into. You might try to add a small amount of kerosene or something of that nature to the oil itself. Run engine for short amount of time and then change oil. Just an idea.

There are a number of engine flushes available at auto supply stores.I do not know the recommendations for use of these individual products. In general the advise adding these cleaners to an already warm engine and operate for five minutes at no load. Then drain. An alternative is to ad about one pint or less to begin with, of automatic transmission fluid to the oil and operate as normal and drain. That stuff is very high detergent and will break down loads of parafin,carbon and varnish.If you go that route I suggest you not wait for a long period before oil change,to get rid of the contaminants.Then do several follow ups until you have a clean engine. It works.Do not go at you problem to heavily or you may partly block the oil pump suction screen. Watch the oil pressure gauge.
