I recently purchased a pristine original Ford 2000
I was reading a publication and noticed in 1964 the color of the hood and fenders was grey and the engine is blue .My tractor and many others I have seen has a blue hood and engine and grey fenders . What year did the colors change ? Why the two paint schemes ?

The 62 thru 64 2000 had a blue hood and engine and grey fenders. The 62 thru 64 4000 had a grey hood and fenders and blue engine. 65 and later had blue hood and engine and grey fenders for all models.

I agree with Geo in SD. I've found tractor books to do a poor job of editing pictures. I would guess the picture you saw is a 4000.

Ford built 2 different 2000 tractors. 1965 was the dividing line between the two. 1964 and older they are essentially the same as the 4 cyl. hundred series Fords. Main difference was the paint went from red belly to blue. They still had the gray hood and fenders.
After 65 they were an entirely different tractor.
3 cyl engine, squarer sheet metal, wider, a little heavier, more options. The 65 and up Fords were all blue except for the gray fenders.
Hope this helps,
Jerry
