jd model g knock

i am new here,i stumbeld on to web sit and glad i did,there seems to be very nice people with a lot of knowlege, with respect i ask for some help.i have a 1950 g with slight knock, it seems in crank area, by useing a stethiscope i think this is area, i was wandering about plastigauge and removeing rod shims as nec. any other sugestions out there? i thank you all for any response. gh

You may have already gotten an answer, but the first thing I would check would be the flywheel. They work loose from time to time, and this will make a knocking noise. May just need to tighten the bolts on the flywheel. Don't run it too long with this knock, whatever it is. If it is the flywheel, it will waller out the splines pretty quick. Good luck in finding your problem.
