Hi, I was looking at the Same tractor brand and I was wondering if many people had good luck with them and would consider buying a new one?. I'm really wondering if they would be able to put up with the punishment a liquid cooled could take?, I've heard that as long as the air filter is kept clean an air cooled engine won't overheat. Also, does anybody know if their Diamond II series are air cooled?. What do you think of them?.
thanks in advance,
Jonathan

I have a Duetz Diesel air cooled. Got to say it is a work horse. Never any problems getting hot and I am in South Texas. Also being deisel, I can work it for Days doing what I do with it and never need fuel. Unlike my water cooled Gasoline model that always needs fuel and I need to stop and clean the fins on the radiator now and then in order to keep her from over heating. Yes i would by another.

I think Air Conditioning would be nice...

I get enough "air-cooling" in the winter... Then, it is too Hot in the Summer..

Jonathan: I have a good friend here in central California who has 2 deutz-allis tractors, 1 50 hp and 1 75hp. He bought them about 17 years ago and farms 360 acres of Almonds, he uses them year round for running all types of implements including shreaders and harvest equipment. During harvest here temperatures are normally 100-110 degrees. He swares by these tractors to be best he's ever had, practically bullet proof. The only thing that he says negative is that now they are priced quite a bit more because they have gained popularity, but that is a positive thing if you look at bottom line after purchase expenses. good luck !

My uncle had one a very long time ago 25 or 30 years? He had no engine problems but tractor was bugged with hydraulic problems maybe rear end too, finally the dealer had to open up the rear end area and found someone had broken off a glass bottle inside of it. They thought this was cause of troubles but not fault of tractor.

I've owned air cooled diesel tractors since the mid 80's includeing the 2 air cooled SLH (SAME) built tractors i bought new a few years ago, and still own.

They do "not" over heat, and are a real work horse! I custom rotavate with mine, and that puts a good load on them for hours on end. I've never had one come near over heating, but because they don't have a water jacket, the engines are more noisy sounding.

Also because they are air cooled, they don't have radiator, water pump, and all kinds of other water related problems!!

Ditto that, Robert. I have 4 aircooled Pasquali and PGS, and i've used them quite hard. The Pasqualis are older, but i've literally run them , grading, for 8hrs without stopping, all the time expecting the red light to come on. Sure they are noisier, but there are the other uncluttered benefits.
I'm about to switch to synthetic amsoil which is 1 of 2 of the truly 100% synthetics available, and i expect it to run cooler. Also i'm planning to run biodiesel and straight veg-oil fuel this season.

They sound like a great tractor, are they reasonably priced and come with a good warranty?. The reason I ask is because nobody sells them in my area and I had believed Same had gone out of buisness 20yrs ago until I saw one (a brand new one!!) at a farm show, but I didn't have enough time to inquire about it, so after I got home I checked online and found the Same tractor website and was amazed at what they had to offer. I am wondering if all of the Same tractor line is air cooled, even their 261hp Diamond II.
Thanks for responding!,
Jonathan

The answer is NO,

SAME is phaseing out all of the air cooled diesels, just like Deutz is also doing. The reason is, they need to meet new emision standards, and it's a lot easier to do that with water cooled engines! :>(

SAME was never out of business, and has been building tractors since 1927 when Francesco Cassani developed the world's first farming tractor powered by a diesel engine. It was a two cylinder 12.7 litre horizontal propulsion unit with 40 HP at speed of 450 rpm.

Check out the SAME history for more info, and pictures.

I have a 5670 Agco Allis which is built by SAME. Its a good tractor and is tough as nails. I keeps its cool just fine however you do from time to time have to blow out the oil cooler. This is JUST as important as keeping the fins clean. It now has 2600 hours and our biggest problem has been with the starter.

Jonathan, I ran a Deutz-Allis for about 15 years. It never ran hot. The outside temp. does seem to affect the tractor temp. more than a water-cooled tractor. Make sure you keep the cooling fins clean. I don't know if the air filter affected the tractor's temp. or not. I think that I kept it fairly clean so I wouldn't know about that.
