I know it is not a tractor, but I just bought a used Silverado HD which is my first truck with an hour meter (which I did not know how to access until I read the manual). The truck has 31,000 miles and 1075 engine hours. I was susprised to find this many hours. Do ya'll have any experience average miles/hours. And is it a fair assumption that truck hour meters do not depend on engine rpm?

I bought an ex township truck. Had 29,000 original miles and 14,800 hours, probably most spent at the donut shop idling.

I have no idea on your truck if the hours correlate to rpms or are 60 minutes of clock time. On the diesel trucks and buses I've driven the hour meter is like on a tractor, at x RPM it is 60 mins, higher rpm and an 'hour is less than 60 mins, lower RPM than rated it is longer). I had 2 different DT466's Saturday in buses (took one out and burst a heater hose so they brought me another one). First one had 90K miles and 4600 hours, the other had 77K miles but 5900 hours.

The same 6.0l. I had a 5.7l (I always change my own oil) that had a fair amount of metal on the magnetic part of the drain plug on about the 4th or 5th oil changing. Never saw it again never had any trouble at all. Good luck

Engine hours are just that: The total number of hours that the engine has been running.

Your truck ran a rough average of 30 miles per hour. Change the oil every 3000 miles or 100 hours, whichever comes first.

Properly maintained, the engine should last 8,000 to 10,000 hours or 240,000 to 300,000 miles.

Wish I had one.

I bet most trucks average about 30 MPH , when you factor in traffic & idleing.... Works out about right. I have always assumed that one hour on a machine is equal to about 30 miles on a vehicle. It amazes me how many hours some lift trucks can run... I saw one with 30,000 hours .....
