New to me tractor (Oliver), but I havent gone into it too far, I am pretty new to this. I grabbed a hold of the radiator hose, the low one (I guess its the radiator outlet?) and darn it all if its not very hard INSIDE! There is hard stuff in there, in chuncks.

Help me here, my car ones just contain coolant nad its a nice squeeze right through, so I think I have a problem. I went to the drain plugs to get the coolant out, and nothing but a small drip came out. I need advice on how to correct all of this mess.

Darren,

At the risk of making the obvious sound profound, you might remove the hose and see what's inside it. This would also allow you to drain the radiator and some of the block so you can start the flushing process.

Good luck

Well, if you can feel chunks, not the wires in the hose, it could be a sealer called Liquid Glass, it is used to seal head and block leaks. I started to tear down an engine that was getting hot and found the exact same thing in the lower hose, chunks. Ended up tearing into the engine and milling the head, and replacing the head gasket, since you could see where the sealer had sealed the head gasket. If it has chunks, it has problems, just make sure you aren't feeling the spiral wound wire in the hose.

Darren,
The lower radiator hose is hooked up to the suction side of the water pump and some time thes hoses are reinforced with a coils spring to keep them from collapsing. Maybe what you're feel is the wire coil. Regarding the drain plugs, these old tractors have not had the best of care so sometimes there is sediment in the bottom of the block and radiator that plugs the drain. Take a small piece of wire and after opening the drain, poke around in their with the wire and see if you can open the clog. Some people recommend a fifty fifty mix of distilled white vinegar and water as a flush solution to help clean out the radiator and block. There are commercial flushes also available. Remember to flush the cleaner out well before adding a fresh mix of 50/50 anti-freeze/water. Hope this helps.
