Can anyone tell me for sure if Avery ever used any hercules engines in the tractors in the 20's.
I have a unit with avery radiator and herc engine and I thought it might be a cut off Avery tractor turned into a power unit. I'll put a pic in help identify. thanks...George

Thanks Gene, but I'm older than dirt, so all I can do now is down-size. Truth is, this old vet can hardly get out of his own way!

This does not really have anything to do with your post, but I thought you might find it interesting.

My father in law has an Avery A that had a broken continental engine in it when he got it. Well being the tinkerer that he is he put an old Datsun engine and tranny in it. Works pretty well and since he put the Datsun tranny in there in front of the origional tranny he has about 20 or so forward gears and 10 or so reverse speeds ! The little sucker will do over 40 MPH! He has a belt driven hydraulic pump on it and a nice working belly mount scraper blade on it.

Might by your monitor Gene. When I go to the page it's plenty "light." The engine is a Hercules #19653 4X5 inch, if that helps. George

Your photo is so dark and shadowy, that it is almost unseeable. If you could lighten it up and repost it you might get better answers. What little of it I can see looks like the "A" series tractor I have. Can't tell much about it. Look on the side of the engine and see what series of Hercules engine it is. They used Hercules engines in their tractors. Don't think they looked like your picture back then.

Yes that is a much clearer picture now. That does not look like the IXBe that is in the Avery:A" that I have. You need to do a web search for the national B.F.Avery club. They have a websighr, think it is on a server called brightnet. They are sdupposed to have a big convention in I a month or so. I have an Avery to dispose of if you need a whole tractor.
