Can I run my 160 HA ( 400 ACRE )farm with one 85hp 4x4 tractor. That is land prep. , planting , harvesting etc. If not, how much can a tractor like this size do.

It all depends on what you are needing it to do.

Thanks guys, I would like to plant corn or wheat. Lets assume all conditions are normal if there is such a thing in farming.I realise the more horsepower I have the better but my budget is limited hence the question can I get the crop in and off the land with one 85hp 4x4 tractor (400 acres )

I would guess no, need to figure acres tilled per hour and days available, and also planted per hr?

Planting is a race against time here in new england (short growing season)and I have found big tractors to be very useful for that, bigger tractors allow use of bigger equipment and 400 acres is a big back yard for one 85hp tractor. Don't get me wrong, 85hp will do the same work a bigger one will, but at a slower pace using smaller impliments. Do you plan on dairy farming?. What kind of crop(s) will you be growing?.

Thats more then enough to do it but you may find it has its limits and at times find that you would really like 1 or 2 more
