Can you say ego convention? Why must people get on this forum and argue? Each person has their own experiences and should not try to discount someone elses just because they are in a bad mood. I am refering to the post by Scott. Do any of you know the guy? Then shutup and learn something. You are a bunch of smartmouth jerks and need to learn some manners.

After reading the previous posts , I have to add my experience about carb shut offs. My carbs also do not leak gas. I never shut the gas off on my "770" carb. That is , never until a year and one half ago. I keep my "770" in the shop.If I'm going to be out in my shop for a couple days or so in the winter , I keep the fire going in the stove. About a year and a half ago , late fall , before I had added isopropyl to my gas , ice formed in the carb bowl. The ice crushed my float. When the temp warmed up a little , I lost a full tank of gas on the floor. The fumes were very strong. Good thing the fire wasn't going then! If so , I wouldn't have a shop today. Now , if I'm going to have a fire in the stove , I shut my gas off. Or , park the tractor out side , which I don't like doing. So , in my opinion , even if the carb doesn't leak gas , shutting off the gas is not a bad idea.

Deffinately not me now. Some people don't want to learn.

SOME of the people on this board apparently know what you are doing. Good.

No, I wasn't harping on the people on here that have leaking carbs. I was complaining about the people that say "sut the fuel off to fix the problem".

Give them what ever you want. This knowledge base has just signed off.

Ok, now you've done it. Scott's knowledge base has just signed off!

Now who will we turn to when we have carb problems? And, more importantly, who will give us a sharp tongue lashing when we've failed to do things exactly as Scott would have us do?

Thanks alot. Now he's gone.

You'd a had a fair idea & some fairly good advice.

You just need a little more people-skills to not be so offensive and self-absorbed in presenting your ideas.

No one on here, not me & not you, are God's gift to the world. Better to try to treat others as equals, than to try to belittle people as you do. That kind of 'knowledge' is never really missed, whether it would have been valid or not. :)

Was raised at a John Deere dealership, in the 40's and 50's John Deere Reccomended shutting off the fuel, and draining the carburetor when you stopped an all fuel engine by letting it burn all of it out of the bowl, then they reccomended leaving the fuel shutoff turned off to keep gas or fuel from diluting the crankcase oil, and they are the ones that made the tractor!

Well I have to say it, 5 whole years of experience. WOW! No pun intended but, I have seen mechanics with 20,30,40,50,60 years of TRACTOR and AUTO repair experience and most are masters at their trade. Never have I seen someone with so little experience And so much mouth.Old man once told me to listen to the people who don't say much(THE SMART PEOPLE)and Ignore the ones who talk all the time(THE BRAGGERS).I myself have been a MASTER TECHNICIAN longer than this Scott fellow probably has lived(Maybe not if he is over 55).I saw a few good points he made but he they were all quickly discarded due to lack of maturity. In short I think Scott may need to grow up or get layed or somthing just to bring him down to our simple country ways.Wonder how many tractors Scott has?Wonder why he is so smart and can't spell any better than me?AW shine, who cares anyway?

Looks to me like you're guilty of what you're accusing of us poor idiots and jerks of. I guess you need to pontificate a little more so we can, indeed learn MORE of your manners. Off the subject of your own emotional issues,it seems to be that Scott was kind of scolding "we with leaking carburetors", through his keyboard. I didn't bother responding until now, but . . . I've been a mechanic and electrician for 40 years, and I do know a few things. I also did all the bench rebuilding for a Deere dealership on fuel injection pumps, starters, alternators, hydraulic pumps, and the lowly and "simple" carburetor. Think and say what you want, but even the best carburetor can leak under certain conditions. John Deere had the foresight to put automatic fuel shut-offs on some of their tractors - operated by engine oil pressure. I guess their engineers hadn't met Scott.

Just Wondering if maybe someone else might be a bit grumpy today? Sounds like you've got a pretty big chip on your shoulder. Wouldn't the easiest way of dealing with your concerns be to just not say anything rather than opening up another can of worms, or maybe that's the overall plan Stan.

I agree with you that I am out of line in possibly getting the arguments started up again. I apologize and hope that this will end across the board. I guess I just get tired of those who want to argue. Again I hope that this post will fade into oblivion and we can all go on to talk about what we all love...tractors.
