I am confused. It was told to me recently that the oliver 550 was first produced in 1958 and all 550's had 12 volt system. In the catalog they offer distributors for the 550 in 6 or 12 volt. Are all 550 Olivers 12 volt? thanks, allen

All "three digit" (550,660,770,880,990)tractors were 12V. The only Surers we had were diesels wich were 12v also, but I pretty sure the gassers were 6V like in the non-supers.

Mine is a gas 550. It cranks slow like it is a 6 volt. Are you fellows basically saying my tractor is 12 volt? thanks for your patience for I am learning the Oliver.

I have a '57 Super 55, it was originally a 6V system. I have since converted to 12v.

I can't answer your question but will tell you the Delco dist. # 1112555 was used on the 6 volt 55 and the 12 volt 550. The 1957 55s are listed a 12 volt so I would assume the 1958 and later 550s would be 12 volt. Good luck!
