This may not be a classic tractor, but I don't know so forgive me if I am OT. I am told that an acreage I am purchasing to farm has a "versatile tractor 275" (or maybe 276..hard to read)on site. I know nothing about this tractor and don't seem to get any hits on a web search. Looks like they think it is a $10,000 tractor. I can get a lot of HP for that money if I go to a classic, so I want to try to find out what I would be buying. Anybody out there know the HP on this tractor or parts availability, service, etc?

One consideration, if the Versatile is red then check to see that the rear axle is not damaged by a loader or other heavy equipment used on the rear. They are known to have problems. The blue versions have a heavier axle. Parts should not be a problem. The current manufacturer of Versatiles is Buhler Industries Inc. Their web site is:>Link

Not to be the devil's advocate or anything, but some Bi-Directionals had a reputation for burning up, especially if they were used around hay or other dry materials. The chaff would mix with leaking oil under the cab, and pretty soon, FIRE!

Used to have a 150 versatile, the 276 they are about 116 brake horsepower, 100 on the drawbar, the 276 anyway, the previous person is right, this is more like a 20000 dollar tractor, could buy it and resell , and get something cheaper, make money both ways If it is a blue one they are closer to 30000, check out Ironsearch.com , they have a lot of them, I have a brochure in front of me if you need any more info

A Versatile 276 would be a hydrostatic drive articulated bi-directional tractor powered by a 116 hp Cummins 4 cylinder engine. They had a variety of options, such as PTO on one or both ends, 3-point hitch on one or both ends, and loader attachement.

If I remember correctly, they started with the model 150, then 160, 256, 276.

If, in fact it is a 276, $10,000.00 would be a VERY GOOD bargain. The early ones were Versatile red, the later were painted Ford blue

Go to Google, Click the Image Search tab, and search for "Versatile 276". Any of those look like what you're looking at?

Bob, Have only noticed the tractors in passing, hadn't been able to take a good look. Our county had one they outfitted with a rear mounted brush hog, and operated tractor in reverse. Seems like that would be just the ticket for several jobs - snowblowing, and roadside mowing come to mind.

Question - how does the operator operate the tractor backwards? Does the operator position reverse, is so how? Please describe. Thanks!

With the tractor off and opperator out of cab the opperator pulls a latch and rotates the seat and controls 180°.
I have heard only good things about them.

RWK - thanks - wondered how they did it. Must be some rather intricate linkages on some of the controls!
