Just had a guy try to scam me, said he wanted to buy my 730, went on for about a week, said he had farms in Ill.,but was currently managing farms in Nigeria, said the check got made out for $300 more than we agreed on and wanted me to send it to him via my credit card and then he would send the money for the tractor, musta thought I was born thismorning. Just watch it guys these crooks will tell you anything, they think we're just dumb-ole country boys.

Just so you all don't think that this is personal, this scam is running rampant on classic car sites too. I had some guy offer to send me $5000 check for a $500 car. If you want to know more about this scam, fossilcars.com has a page dedicated to it and has an address where you can contact the Dept. of Treasury to report this.

Roy,

That must be a small operator--only paying you $300 over your price. The one that contacted me sent $5500 over the $1500 I was asking for the old Ford diesel I was selling. Still have his check as a friendly reminder....

Depositing a check that we suspect to be bad is a bit of a risk now. My bank charges me a fee for any checks I deposit that are returned as unpaid. If suspected of being no good, do not deposit it, just frame and and hang on the wall. No, wait, frames cost money too.

Bus Driver,

I didn't deposit it and didn't frame it. Just stuck it in one of my tractor books. I called the bank in S. FL that it was "drawn on" and they knew about the scam and advised that the "check" was definitely not one of theirs--the check number had no relation to their numbering system. The paper was cheap too--the guy didn't even try to use decent material--almost like newsprint paper...

A couple weeks ago there was an 8020 Jond Deere on ebay, $15,000 buy now, I emailed and asked what was wrong with it , he emailed back and said it was ok, he was in Italy buying new John Deeres to ship back to California, and was short on money, wire him $4000 and he would pay the frt. to get the 8020 from California to Virginia and I could pay the rest when I got the tractor, YEAH RIGHT!!!!! !!!!.

NO WAY I have a wheel for the front of a IHC tractor listed and they want to buy the wheel from me that I wanted $150 for and he was going to send me $3850 and I was to send the change to his business associate and they would worry about the freight later. It is sure sad right now there are 2 JohnDeere tractors for sale with free shipping and at a really low-low price ---I beleive most of us have their drift figured out.

Maybe those scam guys just haven't figured out what the exchange rate is and thought you guys were honest enough that you could return money to them. I bid on a new New Holland tractor on ebay last November, it was a TS100 model with the loader but they said they loader didn't go with. They said they would ship it anywhere freight free. I emailed the contact to see where they were located and it was Switzerland. Minutes later ebay pulled the ad and sent me a message. Darn and I could have gotten that tractor cheap!
But, what's cheap?
