Bought a crawler on ebay- not delivered yet but seller states it just developed a small leak in one of the lift cylinders. Wants to make it right & knock $50 off price- What will it cost to repair a cylinder if it is just the seal?

I just paid 50 bucks to have a hyd cylinder for my backhoe ob the 8n rebuilt.. Guy told me that I shouldnt tighten the nut that the seal is under all the way down,, just tighten it till the leak stops,, this is a adjustment in the packing and if it is cranked all the way down to start with then there is no adjustment...Jim

It sounds to me as if he is treating you right, it may cost more than $50 to replace the seal, but anytime you are buying used equipment you will no doubt need to make some repairs eventually. I would take the $50 and be happy, afterall, the leak could have waited to show up until the tractor was in your possesion, and then you would have been on your own.

Well that depends on a few things, the brand of the machine and cylinders for one thing and if you are going to do the work or have some one else do it. The seals can cost from around $20 up to a few $100 depending on what they are and how big they are. Did a cylinder on a Cat 950 wheel loader this summer and the seals cost around $100 for just one cylinder on it. Hope this helps some
