Hello; We have a 84 C70 Chev dump we use on the farm under 26000. Our company (Farmers) will NOT sell us coverage. We have the farm and pickups and cars with them. They told us that even one ton will NOT be covered! Has anyone else had this kind of a problem? We are in Minnesota..... .Bob

It seems that it is good practice nowadays to shop the insurance policies each time they come due. They have no loyalties to you today. Get the best deal and go with it.

The insurance companys are not making enough money on their investments and some of them are still smarting from 9/11 so they are taking it out on us by raising premiums and even refusing to insure us, and this includes everything from vehicles to buildings to our own bodies. A local threshing show I am involved with has seen it's liability insurance rates almost triple in the past couple of years and it will probably be worse for this year, and we are claim-free! Some realy fine engine/threshing shows are in jeopardy because they either can't afford or even obtain insurance. The insurance companies don't look ar our individual case anymore. They look at statistics instead. I heard on the radio that the insurance companies even look at our credit ratings. They somehow figure that if we have a low credit rating that we are more accident prone. Go figure!

Bob,
I also live in MN and my regular company (All State) would not insure my '84 GMC 6000 dump truck, single axle with farm plates. I went to the local state farm office, and they insured it for libility every six months for a cost of $128.00. Then a couple weeks later I got a refund check in the mail, as they had charged me $68.00 to much! I am very happy with the coverage and the cost. Hope this helps!

I had the same problem insuring my one ton dually. They said if it was a single axle no problem. They would insure the dually as a commerical truck but I wouldn't pay their high rates.I switched insurance companies.

Go figure, with a name like "Farmers". But then I couldn't get any insurance from Farm Bureau for my farm. My dump truck, similar usage, was no problem for either Allstate or Erie writing commercial coverage. Currently $236/yr for considerably more than the minimum liability coverage. Price was dependent on use. Hauling stone for others would have been more. We also have a van insured commercially, rates are just about the same as non-commercial. Good luck.

My insurance company wanted several K to insure my chevy dump as a commercial vehicle. I went to Safeco & they insure it as a farm vehicle for much less. I don't recall how much.

You couldn't pour Farmers Insurance on me if'n it was for free. They take your premiums without a problem, but just try to get them to take care of a claim. It just don't happen !
