I know a lot of guys on this board have "winter projects" but I was wandering if they are really winter projects, fall projects or spring projects. What I'm asking is how many are really restoring the tractor this month and next in the very cold weather. I don't mean an occasional hour or two but serious stuff. I do most of mine in the fall and spring.

Thanks guys. I have been working on my IH 240 utility but have not done anything on it since new years weekend. It has been raining or pretty cold each weekend since and is suppose to rain this weekend also. I guess I'll start back soon though.

I have stuff going at all times ( money permiting).
Winter for me includes Fall, Winter and Spring.
Working on my Farmall 400 now. Then my NH68 baler will get some lovin. Then the NH55 rake, then my IH241 baler. Once my Haying equipment is up to next summers tasks. I can get into the Farmall 300 for the next year.

Me! Doing a Super H right now, may wait to paint till it gets a little warmer, but may not...Spring = plowdays, pulls and shows, just like fall! Can't play with 'em if you're workin' on 'em!

I take the engines and small to medium parts off in the late fall, put them in the basement shop. I can rebuild the engines and strip the parts then rap them in newspaper.

Supposed to get 10-20 inches more snow tonight so I guess I won't be out painting the tractors.

Building my shop inside machine/hay shed right now so I can do winter projects without freezing fingers off. Imagine I'll get it done about the time weather starts to warm up. I'll be ready next year.

Total rework and paint on a 6000 ford.Bigger job than I wanted this winter but stuff needed fixing by spring.Fixing all what is needed mechanical, going back together now, sandblasted and painted already. Lacking sheet metal paint, gauges reworked, and a few hydraulic hoses. I got the steering wheel smoking in the mold today, alot of hours of work left on it. Harrison

Can you explain the steering wheel smoking in the mold?

It's the poor boy way to repair those cracked up steering wheels you can't get an original for.Make a mold then remove all the old plastic and scuff the rim of the steering wheel. Add fiberglass and steering wheel shut tight and wait. The hard part is sanding to preference after it's dry.Add a little paint and it looks like new for about $10. and some effort. When that fiberglass cures it smokes especially on cold days.

Right now I've got a NH 256 hay rake in the works, IH-H, AC 6040, a couple of Woods MD 80s's, and a JD B. Hope to have them all done by then end of Feb. (but occassionally I've been over optomistic). I'll try to put a fe pics up.

I know you said not an hour or two but, thats the only way I can any more due to health and when its warm like yesterday, in the 40-50s I spend an hour or so at it. Today I went for more parts for one of them so I did get something done its around 32 out right now.

Winter is the only time I have to rebuild/restore and enjoy the process, the other seasons are for maintenance and repairs between planting, harvest, playing with the kids and honey-do's. Especially the honey-do projects. Winter would be very long and cold without them done.

I have a JD 4 bolt B that I'm working on. I work on it every day or night unless it's 20 degrees or colder. Some days I only get in an hour or so. It takes me about 3-4 months to do a tractor that way, if I didn't it would stretch into a 6-12 month project. When it's to cold and/or wet to do any work I try to do some research, run down parts, etc. I do "something" everyday.

I've got an Oliver/Hart Parr 70rc in the shop thats being put together right now. Last winter I did a Farmall 560D. I'm in the excavating bus., and farm a little. If I don't get it in the winter,it probably won't get done until next winter as spring and fall get really busy.

I am refurbishing my IH 2444. Seals, lights, paint, hoses, etc. Not a restoral, just fixing a couple of leaks and painting it, and maybe a clutch. I will be done by the end of February. I have about 20 acres of overgrown land to clear with it in the spring.
