Is it real necessary to prime a new oil pimp, and if so how would this be performed. I just squirted some heavy oil in the intake. This is for my MF 231 Thanks Stan

The whole purpose of priming a oil pump is not so much for your oil pump but to keep your engine from starting with no oil pressure and having a "dry start". by not priming your oil pump manually you must wait for the engine to do this after it is running which can take several seconds with no oil going to things like the bearings. NOT a wise thing to do with any engine.

Engine oil pump? Would you risk starting without it picking up? It is probably enough to run just the starter motor after what you have done until oil pressure builds up, although oil into the outlet would have been good too. You can pump oil into the gallery which will run down to the pump. Also depends on oil level with regard to pump head - if it is submerged it won't really matter.
