Have had a multitude of minor episodes of trouble and some major ones too. Was wondering how many other people have the Directway 2 way satellite internet system that both sends and recieves via satellite. we have been on the telephone endless numbers of times and the end result is that the computer system will have to be shut down, and then we have to unplug the power cord to the satellite send/recieve box that acts as the modem. They even told us one day to switch ends on the multi-pin plug between the send/recieve unit and then it began to work again This is usually a daily thing and is usually necessary to the extent that some times it will completely keep the internet from being recieved. Wife had a long discussion with them today after it happened and they are telling her it sounds like we need to have it grounded? We have a known good grounded electricak system, use 3 prong grounded receptacles and surge protectors and have a uninterruptible power supply that feeds the computer systems. Are they saying to ground the coax from the reciever dish to dissipate static electricity? Do not see any where that the coax appears to be grounded and this is getting to be almost aggrevaring enough to cause a desire for a dial up modem again!!! Help in the form of advice would be appreciated if anybody has run into this before. This is the 400 series system. Many thanks. Gene Davis

Are you sure your dish is properly aligned. I did installs for a major corp. and you could get a good picture off satellite but to send and receive data it has to be right on. What did the installers use to align ther dish?

Dish was installed by the installer that directway sent here. it is a seperate dish, not the same one used for the T.V. Think they used a signal strength meter to align it.

If it is aligned properly, it could be a bad LNB. That is the part attached to the dish that has the coaxal cable hooked to it. It picks up the signal from the dish and amplifies it so it is usable by the receiver. Have seen these bad right out of the box. Also could be a bad receiving unit. Some companies don't like to here about new parts that fail on installation but it happens.

FCC requires that two-way satellite systems be installed by professionals. If the satellite company now says there is static build-up or interference causing problems, I'd call the installers back out to do the job right. Did they put a grounding rod at the dish? Did they install a grounding block where the coax enters the building? Did they check for interference sources close to the line-of-sight of the dish? If this has been a problem since installation, the job wasn't done right the first time.

Directway made arrangements to send an installer that they use for their systems to do the job. I see no evidence of a ground wire or rod in either place that you mention. Actually the problem has been worsening for a while now. Does the fact that they tell you to unplug system and wait for two minutes indicate a static buildup in the system?
