Hi All,

Did you ever wonder why the weather doesn't matter, is never picked up by the major media outlets nor is it ever "news" until it hits the Northeast part of the country?

This has always puzzled me. I hear that they are now getting a little cold weather.

I guess the rest of us aren't considered part of the country. LOL

Allan

Allan, The reason the major east coast news services don't report Blizzards in the mid-west and west is because they believe so strongly that we are in the midst of global warming that they can't believe that a blizzard or sub zero weather really exists until they walk outside to find that it actually does get colder than a well diggers rear end in the Yukon in places other than the Yukon

Allan, have you been eavesdropping on my wife and I (ha!)? I just asked her the same rhetorical question yesterday morning!

Hi Terry,

I've been noticing this ever since the news services & weather channels went with their 24-hour format.

So, say a guy living out here in the wilds of nowhere wants to take a little road trip cross country.

No help for us little people unless you live in NYC, Buffalo, or Washington DC.

It's just the lay of the land, I guess.

or why all our rotten weather in Canada is blamed on "Colorado Lows" but in Colorado it's all blamed on "Canadian Cold Fronts"

No they know you live there they are just using "open" so they can give a report without being too specific on the "areas" that way they are more close to right guessing the weather.

I'm right outside Charlotte, NC, which is a pretty big place, still the weather here doesn't make major headlines anywhere but here. Funny thing is since the ice storm caught us by suprise a few years ago now we don't have normal weather people on the news, not we have the "Storm Trackers"... "The Severe Weather Center"... or whatever. If it says "bad weather" they have named themselves after it somehow. It's a hoot watching the latest update from the "Severe Weather Center" making a big deal about the spring shower that is comming through "possibly causing major floods", or the light dusting of snow that lasts all of 30 minutes and how it is gonna have major effects on the morning commute.... All the while their lucky if their right 50% of the time about the rain that "might come" when it's pouring buckets outside. Is it just the news/weather services in the South that are this stupid, or is it nationwide???

Know what we call it in Wyoming when the wind blows 70+ mph, or the thermometer drops waaay below zero??? ...Tuesday! I've said for years, the rest of the country could be going through H. E. double toothpicks, and as long as it doesn't affect the east coast, IT REALLY DOESN"T MATTER!!!! As far as the "storm centers", etc, it's SENSATIONALISM in journalism that sells!!! I call it the 5 o'clock "National Enquirer" news with Tom Broken-off, Dan Blather, or just fill in the blank... it's all the same garbage! Unfortunately, a lot of folks are uninformed and swallow the LIES hook, line and sinker!!!

Wayne, I am just down the road fom you (Spartanburg) , & the only forcasts I put much faith in are the ones from Accuweather. They do our radio forcast, it is much closer than the TV ones. They even have a 15-day one at their website.

There are only 3 cities in the US, New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Nobody lives anywhere else, so why would the media worry about the weather out here where no one lives?

Nope you left one out. if you live in the south there is nothing happening until it hits Altanta:) I guess maybe that is the New York of the South?? :) Us poor folks up here in Tennessee can have a tornado and the news crews are still worried about Atlanta:)It's ok though, somehow we manage to survive ..LOL!

Thank God we live in fly over country where things that matter don't get blabbed to the world. Listening to or reading the news is a waste of time. Playing with tractors, your kids, or their momma, that's important. Just my 2 cents.

I hear more about califonia than I want to! If it isn't a celebrity bashing his/her car up on the way to rehab? Or a fire? Or the latest craze that hits LA? The real world sometimes doesn't matter I suppose. My 2c Irv

Where the masses live they seem to have more problems with it. Where I live it is just another day in the life of the USA even if our town almost burns down or it is around -35 wind chill out. Now if the streets of NY get a dusting that's news! If Michel Jackson is caught with his pants down that is big time news, major repeated media blast. Mark H.

Oh, were not complaining bout the 3 1/2 feet of snow we got last week neither.

That's right I know a few people in NY State and you don't here about there snow when it falls much. I wonder about NY City they talk about getting several ft but when the guy with the camera is taking pictures the ground is just wet with a little snow falling. Heck I drive thru worst stuff in the School Bus every day during the winter! Mark H.

Thank you CH seems that most folks don't have any idea that NYC is just one tiny little cesspool in a tiny little corner of a big state. When I was in boot Camp and fired expert at the range from day one my DI wanted to know if I had learned shooting on the streets. Heck I did'nt even know what a street was all I ever knew was roads.
