In my business , I always paid for my supplies as I get them. If being shipped , I would sometimes pay COD. So , one day when I called to place an order , I was told "No More COD's". I was forced to open an account. Reason for no more COD'S; To many loads being shipped to job sites , and no one around to collect money from. Now the truck is tied up. Round trip wasted. Labor for loading/unloading truck. And truck driver's pay. Don't forget , most people running a business "COD" , it's because of poor payment/no credit.

The only thing I ever do COD is the shipping. If I ship something to somebody via truck freight, I do it "freight collect". They pay me in full for the item before I ship it and I get them an estimate of the freight charges based on the weight and destination. I let them know up front though that it is only an estimate. I have taken a couple things in that, for whatever reason, were less than the estimate the trucking company gave and a few that were more. They consider both weight and size so you may pay as much for a 6'x6' box weighing 500lbs as a 3'x3' weighing 1000lbs Doing it this way allowes me to get all my money up front for the item before I let it go. It also allowes me to be sure I don't give a low quote to somebody and have to eat some of the freight and cheat myself as well as keeping me from charging the buyer more than the actual freight because of a high quote. This to me is the only fair way to ship. That's about the only form of COD I'd go for.... Just my .02

I don't like COD it puts up a Red Flag to me. I had a item shipped COD and was paid by check and it bounced. The guy was realy worried about getting ripped off so I went along with COD but he was intending on ripping me off and it took several months to get my money. I had to allmost get him a criminal charge for him and his wife (she signed the check) paying for a COD package with a ISF Check was a criminal charge in his state and I would have pressed charges. There never was nor even later 180.00 to cover the check at his bank. This was the first time I got a bad check out of over 1,200 sales on Ebay. Now it is by Money order or the check clears first. I have been paid amounts from 5.00 to 10,000.00 with out them getting the item first and they allways recived the item after payment. Still waiting for the guy to get the biggest item but he paid for it by money order (11 of them)?? Mark H.

That is the Red Flag to me. How do I know your are not going to rip me off. First sign they are or have done it befor to others because the trust is gone. Like my first wife who was allways saying your cheating on me arn't you and I was not. Funny part is she was I found out later! Mark H.

When I worked for a local factory, We had several customers that owed money and still wanted to buy more. They were put on a credit hold list, meaning they could not buy anymore til the account was paid. We would ship stuff COD to them. On the UPS form there was a box to accept payment check or cash. Always checked the CASH only box. Made several mad but they setteled their accounts because they did not like the COD CASH only fees. Roger

UPS will no longer accept cash for COD's. You must inform the recipient of the COD amount due so they can have a money order or bank draft ready when the UPS driver shows up.
