does anybody know about the different oil filter set ups on a d282? Im in the middle of rebuilding one for a Hough loader(the engine came in a basket). Something doesnt seem right with the way the pressure regulator goes into the block? I believe it needs a o-ring? thanks

Jason,

Yes that little can with the spring and disc

does slide into the block with no seal, also the

right mounting gasket needed for a loader does not

come in most overhaul sets , either make one or

go to cornbinder and buy one . The one in the sets

does not route the oil properly.

Hi Jason,

I'm looking at a exploded view and don't see a pressure regulator extending into the block. Theres a flat gasket on the fliter housing. Maybe explain futher and I'll look again or maybe send you a e-mail copy.

thanks for the reply..From what I have found, there are a couple type of filter housings-the cast one is supposed to have the regulator built into the base- and the one I have, the regulator slides into a 1" hole in the block. This is how it was when I took it apart-but it fell right out and it is a very loose fit w/out a o-ring. If it doesnt seal-the oil can go around it right back into the crankcase.(this motor was "rebuilt" before I got it-and it only ran for a couple hours. It had a very bad spun bearing-so it may of had a oil pressure problem?)Im not sure if this is the right one for the engine--its not the origional engine for the loader--this is a UD282-and the manual says it should be a d301-so I dont know what parts were switched. Thanks

Hi Jason,

What my CD shows is two spring check valves, ones for a plugged filter element bypass that installs towards the bottom of the oil filter and one that installs toward the block called a check valve. They both look to take the same parts, the valve (looks to be a disc), spring (both look the same, different part numbers) and a snap ring. No "O" rings or other seal other than the gasket to the block.

They do show two filter housings, one with both check valves and one with out check valves.

This shows a 05/1997 revision so the original was probably different.

Thats all I have. sorry I couldn't be more help.

thanks for the help--I think we got it figured out-we finally fired it up last night-and ran good with 80lbs pressure. so far so good...
