Terrorist...or just a farmer?

I read in the paper a couple of days ago that the guv'mint has told folks to watch out for people carryin' copies of almanacs with them, 'cause they might be terrorists.

SO...does Al Queida need to know the proper sign of the moon to blow somebody up?

Come to think of it, if you've got an almanac, and access to ammonium nitrate and diesel fuel, you just might be a terrorist, instead of a farmer.

And if you've got access to some "annie" [anhydrous ammonia] and some ether, and you're carrying a package of Sudafeds, you just might be a drug dealer with a meth lab, instead of a farmer with a cold trying to start a tractor.

Or, as "Pogo" said:

"We have met the enemy...and he is US."

Put your hands above your head, stand up facing the barn door, and spread your legs...now SLOWLY bring your hands down behind your back...[click...click}...you have the right to remain silent...

I think we would have a lot less hypocritical congressmen if they all had to send their kids and grandkids to an automatic draft. It always seemd to me the that the percentage of farm kids in the military far exceeded the numbers of rich and connected kids in the military. I did four years of active duty in the 1970's and I met quite a few farm kids while I was stationed on the east coast. Never did meet up with a rich kid or a congressman's kid the whole 4 years in the service. It kind of blows a whole in the theory that the risk takers if they succeed will get the spoils. The reality is that the rich and well connected who take no physical risk will be the ones fattening up their bank accounts at the expense of the lower middle class including farm kid's who take all of the risk.

If you think about it, most of the Homeland Security alerts, warnings, and chest pounding are pretty much a joke. They can't keep itinerant Mexican farm workers out of the country, much less trained terrorists.Since the latest amber alert, the scales have been checking all the trucks on the Interstate near me day and night. But they closed the scales for Christmas and New years. Doesn't take a trained terrorist to figure out when to travel. Why search the trucks, you can carry enough c-4 in the back seat of a Honda Civic to drop almost any building in the country.Don't get me wrong, they probably do an OK job in some matters of National Security, but for the most part it's to give the general media watching public a fuzzy warm feeling of security while Billions of dollars are being frittered away on Federal and local levels.

Mark,,
You really hit the nail on the head.. You are so right.. The Department of Homeland Security has to show the public that they are doing something, so they raise the alert level a few time a year, then when nothing happens some think they are doing such a wonderful job. They are just justifying their existance. Now the new trick is to cancel international flights to the U.S. as a show of force.. Thanks Tom and George..
In my opinion, OBL or whoever, wouldn't try the same trick again. They have bombed hotels, embassys, amry barracks, a ship, the World Trade Center, once with a truck bomb then with two airliners. I'm sure he has different tricks up his sleeve besides trying the same thing twice. The best cure for the threat is to kill the agressor. Two and a half years later and he's still at large with a 50 million dollar price on his head. Kind of goes to show that money isn't everything to everyone in the world. Like you said Mark, Homeland Security can't stop the millions who cross our southern border every year and who's to say all of those crossing are Mexicans. I'm sure if some Afgan, or other middle easterner were to make it to Mexico and offer a coyote 5 grand to usher him and his baggage across the border, he would probably drive him across in a limo. When Tom Ridge and his gang can stop the illegal entries into the U.S. I will say they are doing a good job.

Wrong Almanac. Beleive it or not, there is another kind. It's the world almanac, about 1,000 pages, with info like how tall a lot of buildings are, how long a lot of bridges are, population densities for all the major cities. A very good resource for such activities as planning to blow up a big bridge, or where to put a dirty bomb. And everyone knows someone carrying NH3, ether, and Sudafed is making meth. A farmer would never take anything for a cold.

The news on the radio actually said "The Farmer's Alminac". I was surprised at that too, but the world one would make a bit more sense.

If I had a dollar for everytime a news person gets something wrong or tries to steer your thinking in the wrong direction. Im more worried about a presidential candidate stating he will hold farmers to the standards for air quality as any industrial manufacturer (due to causing asthma in children in the country). I just wonder what a bag house (filtering system) will look like on a cattle building, let alone the cost.

I've already read where they have already spent millions researching the effects to the atmosphere of methane from cow farts. I can't wait to see them trying to stick some kind of catalytic converter up some poor heffers a$$, or even better watching them try to do it to the biggest, meanest bull in the field.... That would be show worth paying to see..HA HA HA

These blithering idiots who think they should force farmers to put filters on everything so their kids won't have asthma aint gonna like the price of corn flakes when they do. I dare say that the kids are probably more prone to getting asthma from the dust and filth in the carpet than any farm dust or polin that gets kicked up. They would do well to get off their duffs and go outside for some fresh air.

Don't worry, Paul. He has about as much chance of being president as Pee Wee Herman.

So what's wrong with Pee Wee Herman? He never did anything that you never did, he just done it in a theatre instead of at home. You've gotta learn to be more tolerant Les !!!
