Super Tech Brand. Says to mix 50-50 for -34F. That will only get you +5F. I read about this on another board and checked out the 30 gallons I bouth in Oct. It's true. They must be putting the premix in regular jugs. I thought I had everthing in good shape, now I have to start over again. W-M says they are looking into it. ???Buy better brands???? OK--are you sure yours is OK??

For the past few years, all the brands are selling it straight or pre-mixed...the containers are planly marked....you must read the instructions...

It's simply a matter of reading the label. Local stores advertised premixed antifreeze this fall as well. What does premixed mean? Antifreeze and water. Usual mix in northern climates is 50-50, so that's what they sold. Compare the price- less than straight AF, but why buy water? Anytime the word 'convenience' is included, it means you are paying well for it. Used our own water for over 35 years and never lost an engine yet because of it. Simple solution is to top off your radiator with straight AF, when the jug is half empty, refill with water, and keep it in the trunk, for when you need to refill.

I don't think, although I'm not a mechanic, that the brand makes that much of a difference. I think it is as stated before it's the mix. Granted it was a long time ago, late 70's, when I was in high school, I worked at a Grandpa Johns Store in Southern, Illinois. (kinda of mix between Ace and Western Auto) Anyway, the salesman for out automotive supplies told me that there was only two manufacturers of Antifreeze in the nation. They sold thier products to others who would use thier own jugs and such to sell them. Of course each one could add additional additives. Just a thought.

As John H previously posted. It's better to use premix rather than add your tap water full of disolved minerals to the cooling system. How much does distilled water cost to add to the concentrate? Plus retailers know there are suckers who will purchase the lowest price.

weeeel, i think that stuff is another way to take someone for a ride. guy goes down the shelf looking for the cheapest price, there it is the mix is a few cents cheaper. if he doesnot read the label, he's caught.

another example: Tractor supply has 2-4-d in gallon and 2.5 gallon jugs. you do the math, (easy if it were just 2 gallons). you figure the 2.5 is a buck or two cheaper. then you read the fine print and see that the 2.5 gallon is a much lower concentration than the 1 gallon.

Never heard of anyone just dumping in anti freeze
and not checking it,that's pretty basic and testers are cheap.

The premix identification marking is small and placed off to the side. I think marketing types expect buyers to see only the large graphics in the center of the panel and hope that when you get it home and finally see "Premix" you decide to use it instead of taking the trouble to return it. There's a lot of psychology used in selling.
I've almost bought premix myself several times. Now I've mostly switched over to Havoline 5 year extended life, which claims to have low silicate content.

I used Durex anti-freeze from Fleet Farm for years. This summer i had to get some for one of my tractors. They had Peak on sale, so i got it. This fall i was testing anti-freeze and lucky for me i did a test on that tractor i put the new Peak in. I made a mix of 50/50 like always, but this Peak didn't even test good for 0.
I took the Peak out and bought some Durex and mixed it 50/50 and it's good like it has been for years.

The problem here is premix in full strenght jugs so you think if you mix 50-50 you OK and skip the test you usually make. Then when -20 blows in you find out you only have +5 in the system.

Sorry FB,I misunderstood your post. Is it correct that wallmart is selling a 50/50 premix in jugs marked as 100% antifreeze ?? WOW,if so they sure are asking for a lot of damage claims from customers. Sure hope they correct the situation.

Thanks for the word. I checked and we were wrong on ours as well. When we bought it, we did so because on sale. I guess like another poster said, sometimes you have to pay a bit more to get more.

I remember GM saying that a brand, dont remember the name. Is what GM guarantees in a GM car or truck. I would not buy off brands like Walmart, Joe blow. Thanks for mentioning this, I will read the ingredients.

If you want to KEEP your vehicle for a long time, change that crap the dealer put in... I have heard in many places about engine failures from corroded systems at the time of warrantee expiration... Use Ethelyne Glycol, and be SAFE...!!!

Yes,check the jug to see if it contains 100% antifreeze or premix. The premix is OK for those who do not want to mess with making their own 50/50 mix or have bad mineral laden water or want premixed top up coolant. A bit more expensive, but handy and simple. I used to buy what ever car antifreeze was on sale, then add the coolant additive concentrate to bring the additive package up to specs for a diesel engine. I did this untill I found out that I could buy various companies heavy duty antifreeze formulated for gasoline or heavy duty diesels cheaper than my home brew coolant and I know the additives are compatible and at the right mix.
I learned how little engine/cooling system protecting additive is in most cheap and some name brands when I bought a fleetguard coolant test kit. I tested the coolant in several of my machines and the test strip indicated that the additives were dangerously low. I then tested a sample of new car type(gasoline engine only)premix and found it nearly as low on additives. I thought I had to be doing somthing wrong for new coolant to test so low. I called fleetguards help number and asked what I was doing wrong. The felow at fleetguard asked what brand I was testing. When I named the product, he said the reading was likley accurate as most gasoline only, light duty antifreeze mixtures have only enough additives in them to protect a gasoline engine cooling system for 1 year?? His advice was to spend the few extra pennys per gallon and buy the heavy duty stuff which is rated for gas and diesel, and to check and if necessary replenish the additives every year with an additive concentrate. Most every tractor or heavy equipment dealer has the HD coolant + the test strips and additive. I get mine at the deere dealer and use the farmoil brand HD antifreeze.
