O.K. guys today i tried what you suggested. First i tried the saftey switch no change. Then I tried jumping across the terminals on the solenid under the hood and it would spin over. But when hit the key it would just click. So i went to Napa and bought one just to try and it wound not even click. Nothing. So i put the old one back on and back at the same point. It justs clicks. I do not have an maunal for it. So i need all the help you guys can give me.

Thanks

Justin

Ever wonder what a farmer, the tractor and the shed look like after a tinker screwdriver start? The tinker pleased with hearing the tractor roar to life now has about 1/2 second before the pumps build pressure, engage the clutch packs and the tractor leaps forward. Not pretty with the tire or duals and the equipment behind driving over the tinker. And no matter how fast you are you can't see, react and leap clear in time. Nasty mess for the family to find and the emergency service workers to clean up.

I had a Ford once and worked on it all day. Finally found out the PTO was engaged.

the neutral safty switch has shim washers on it that can be removed after they wear a little they don't always make contact but that relay could also be bad to test the neutral switch unhook the plug and put a jumper wire between the 2 wires THIS IS ONLY A TEST AND MUST NOT BE LEFT THIS WAY

Why not just check the switch with a meter? Does anyone know how to use a meter anymore to check switches? Screw driver starts and bypassed switches lead to dead or mangled farmers and sad families.

under the hood,on the left side of the firewall, there may be a solenoid that energizes the starter.I say may be because I dont remember when deere changed to a relay.yes, check the nuetral safety switch also.is this a quad range?and are you sure its in nuetral.

Yes it is a Quad Range. It has the A,B,C,D ranges.
I will check the switch by the shifter arms and the soleniod under the hood. I know it is there but when i turn the key it just clicks.

If it clicks when you turn the key to "start", its probably not the neutral safety switch, but rather, the solenoid (which you are now bypassing by jumping with the screwdriver).

Justin,

When you turn the key to"start", which solenoid clicks... the one up under the hood, or the one attached to the starter?

The soleniod under the hood is the one that clicks.

Justin,

Have you tried (having made SURE the tractor is in neutral), to jump across the 2 large terminals on that underhood solenoid to see if the starter will work that way? Sounds like the under-hood solenoid is bad.

Check the neutral start switch. If it is not a power shift, the neutral start switch is a hex-headed unit screwed into the side of the transmission case near the arms the shift rods connect to, with a 2-wire connector on it. Power shift may be similar?

For goodeness sakes, be carefull when troubleshooting it, and get it fixed before you run over yourself!!!
