I see advertized "reconditioned" Yanmar tractors both on the web and ebay. Are these the so-called gray market tractors? Where are they rebuilt-overseas? I heard that some may come thru Vietnam. Is this true?

Been away from the business a few years so I am not sure what kind of product these refurbished Yanmar's would be.

In the early/mid 80's prior to joining the military I worked at a garage and we took on the Yanmar line of tractors. As much as I don't like to admit it they are/were a very good and reliable piece of equipment. The John Deere's the same horsepower and size were only Yanmar's painted green. These little tractors would also out perform and out work any Kubota that came near them. These were new tractors, and also new to the area so they were hard to introduce and sell. But the ones that we did sell didn't have any dissatisfied customers.

later days mate,
Jim

Run away fast. It's cheaper in the long run to go to your local Deere, CIH, New Holland or Kubota dealer. Central East Farm Supply www.cefs.com has a steady supply of heart broken owners of busted grey market enter and leave thier cripple for scrap. If the part can be found in North America they will get it. However even they can't get parts for some brands/models. Don't waste your time and money.

look homework is a necessity! Yanmar makes tractors in several far eastern countrys, and a lot of lines some are made in japan to real close tolerences and some are made in indonesia- nuff said. if they come from japan many times they are just used to pull a cart around because delivery trucks are real expensive to licence ect. some series have motors with liners and are excellent some are disposable. as far as reconditioned, the guy I deal with buys from pictures and a list, says the tractors sit outside on a lot next to the ocean, and then spend months in a shipping container, ON THE OPEN SEAS. pressure washing and all fluids &filters are a must. most of his then get a dupont overhaul. My 2000 d has spent 5 yrs driving 1000 post a year with a shaver 8, moves 4x4 round bales (needed weight in the front) and shuffling wagons for 5000 to 8000 sq bls 4 whl drv and never stuck yet, buddy saw mine and got one with a new loader, handy as a shirt pocket, lets everyone in the area use it and can't break it.

The Yanmar tractors and others built in Japan are traded early in their life due to Japanese gov-
ernment incentives to trade early. They are small
due to the plot size that they are designed to work in Japan and Asia in general. Grey market
machines in this country can be dangerous to the careless or uninformed due to factors such as lack
of starter safety interlocks and multiple speed PTO's that could cause injury or death if run on certain speed sensitive equipment. Be careful and
informed when you use these bargains and you pro-
bably will be OK and save alot of money.

At least Yanmar had a shuttle shift on some of their tractors, that's more than JD had on their "50" series tractors. My .02 cents.

yanmars were no good new so what makes them anygood reconditioned,i must admit the engines are not bad (used in many john deere) compacts but as far as the tractor you might as well throw away your money

Most all of the small JD's are Yanmar's. I have heard horror stories about the SE Asian re-conditioned tractors. I think most of these tractors were pretty much worn out, spiffed up and leak fixed a bit, than sold as re-conditioned. Farmers in SE Asia are not well off..so I can't see them getting rid of one that is not pretty well used up. Just my opinion though.

One of the auction companys here in NCal sometimes has Yanmar, Mitsubishi, etc. at their farm auctions. The tractors look pretty clean with new tires and only a few hours on the hour meter. I think they sell for about $1200 for the 14 hp to $2000 for the 20 hp. 3 pt hitch, diesel, pto.
