Turf tires on a utility tractor

I am planning to buy a utility tractor for finish mowing, digging some post holes, maybe a front end loader, and I am wondering what the best all round tire is? I am concerned that standard rear tractor tires will tear up the lawn and that turf tires will be useless once I get off the lawn. Any ideas?

R-1 radials run at 6 psi do less damage than R-1,R-3 & R-4's run at 12+psi bias minimum. Just make certain the tire is large enough to run that low a pressure.

I am not an expert on tractor tires but I think that the R4 tires would be best suited for you. R1 are the Bar tires or AG tractor tires, You probably know what turf tires look like and the R4 tires are kinda of like a cross between R1 and turf tires. It is hard to explain without a pictures.

R-4 tires are commonly used on backhoes. Good traction, long wear on hard surfaces, easy on grass. This would be my choice.

You answered your own question. Turfs, while good on the lawn aren't much good in the traction department, especially for loader use.Time you load them down with calcium/wheel weights so you can use them with the loader, they will start to tear up the lawn. Even with the weights, they won't do you much good off of the lawn, especially in wet/muddy conditions. You might consider a 4wd utility with turfs, with all 4 pulling you could do your lawn in 2wd and your other work in 4wd.

Actually lug tires are better for your lawn vs turf tires. The lugs, while much more aggressive, will not slip and spin nearly as much as turf tires on damp grass and earth. You must pay attention to what you are doing though, when you do slip lug tires you will dig an ugly hole. I replaced the turf tires on my ZTR mower with lug tires and eliminated the ugly spin marks and torn up turf(hillsides). The lug tires do make marks in soft earth, but don't spin, and the depressions quickly fill up at the next rain.
