HAVE A JOHN DEERE 4020 WITH POWER SHIFT TRANSMISSION, THAT DON'T WANT TO GO INTO GEAR UNTIL YOU WORK THE HYDRAULIC LEVER FOR THE FRONT END LOADER. HAVE SERVICE THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM BUT THIS DIDN'T CHANGE ANYTHING.

My father in law (Elkhorn Denny) had a similar problem with his 4020 and posted it on the JD board and those guys helped him fix it. His problem was the linkage, at least it hasnt done it since he adjusted his linkage.

Bruce:
I have a 4020 power shift, was having trouble sometimes getting it to go forward when shifting from reverse gears to forward. Found out it was only a little wear in the linkage, as when I kinda "slap" the lever to the right, then go up into a forward gear it works every time. Maybe this is something entirely different from what you are experiencing, but I know of one other guy who had the same problem when he first purchased a PS 4020 and it was just like the problem I have with mine. Good luck. David

Sorry I can't give any help here - but don't feel like the LONE RANGER! Son was helping out one of his highschool buddies baling straw last summer - ran into the same problem on a 4020 - said he just kept frogging with it until it went into gear. surey someone on this board has the answer??? Have you tried the JD board?
