Red Dave has the answer.....easy to do....just remove the wires , carb., starter,, gas tank..... four bolts hold it on from the bottom..... first remove the hood and the cast front end..... when you put it back use a new clutch..... take the bare engine to local outo parts place that has machine shop..... .not hard to do and will save you half the money of a new one....these engines can be overhauld 3 times..... take pictures as you take it apart....use them as a guide going back togeather.....

Yes I had this one bored out and we used the old rod when we put it back together. The rod broke and we took it to a Kohler guy and he called back and said it is going to cost SOME money to get it to going again and something about the crank also. We need to go over and pick up the engine and get the details from him on what the problems are. R Wyler

Good used cranks. I got one from Madsons, and had it turned .005 under locally. Kohler only had std. & .005 under rods, so I couldn't cut it twice and stay with Kohler parts. My crank wasn't broken, but it had been cut before.
No complaints about the crank or Madsons. They treated me good and the crank works fine.

Good luck, Red Dave

A 100 was a 10 horse engine when new. I rebuilt a 12 horse Kohler from a 123 last winter. I have about $300 in parts in it. Plus about $70 machine work to bore the block and turn the crank. That was a new piston, connecting rod, rings, bearings, camshaft & gaskets. Plus my time, of course.
I priced a new engine on a website that specializes in small engines, a new one was over $900. Plus shipping, of course.
Look at the tag on the side of the engine and get the model number. Then do a search for small engine suppliers. Replacement engines are out there, your model number will help you find one that fits.

Thanks Red Dave I didn't know that they still built that same engine. It is tempting to buy a new one. I'll have to see what my rebuild exspense would be to start with. R Wyler
