Well, I made up my mind. I called the dealer again, to verify priced. They would sell me the hitch (B & W "Hide-a-ball") for $289, plus $175 installation. The "out-the-door price for it, with me doing the install, was $320. That would make the installation's "true cost" as $130. They faxed me a copy of their insurance, and liability. It just makes good sense to let them do it. While it's there, I'm getting them to spray "Rhino-Lining" in the bed. They'll do it for $125 extra. The job will be done friday morning, and I'll pick up my new trailer Saturday. Thanks for the input. John

I think you'll be happy with the the B & W hitch. I have one for my Donahue 20 ft stocktrailer and it works as advertised on my F350. Having an unobstucted truck bed is important to me. It was a bolt in so I installed it myself. Took about 4 hours and it's simple. I also have a sprayed in bed liner (Rhino)and it works great. Only thing I would do different is that I would cut the hole for the ball first and then have the liner put in and then have the hitch installed after the liner. You get a neater installlation. I did it the other way around and then had to go back after removing the hitch so the liner people could refinish the hole edge.

You are very wise. I,m a retired accident and loss control engineer, with 30years of seeing attorneys salivate to nail someone. It,s always wise to let those with the most experience and liability insurance do the work. This builds hurdles they must climb to get you. Happy hauling!Dave in Oregon.

Now, now; there, there- the attorneys have to make a living too. And preferably, a comfortable one.

Guy walks into a bar leading an alligator on a leash and says, "Do you serve lawyers?" Barkeep replies, "Of course. Be happy to." Guy says, "Great- I'll have a beer, and bring a lawyer for the gator."

John,
If you have or will put a tool box on your truck this would be a good time to have a Rhino lining sprayed in it. Likely they will have enough stuff left over to spray a crossover tool box. It sure nough takes the slide and clank out of a tool box.

You definately made the right decision. Some things are better left to those who get paid to do it.

That's sorta' the way I see it too. Plus, this way, I don't have to be the one that drills a 4" hole in the bed of a new $38000 truck! THAT would be tough. John

'04 Dodge, 2500 (3/4 ton) quad cab, long bed, with Cummins H/O turbo diesel, the new IMPROVED automatic tranny (New for 2004, built to withstand the high torque output of the Cummins diesel) power seats, all the chrome, and a sticker price that was as big as the truck! I've got about 1500 miles on it, and I'm thrilled with it. A real trailer towing machine! John
