The best way I think is to attend farm auctions or the like, and buy the parts that have already been removed, that way you will not be knocking a perfectly good tractor in the head. Way too many of these fine old tractors are already in the salvage yards.

There was a guy recently parting out an F-20 on Ebay and seemed to do quite well. Fortunately for him, the tractor had some parts in demand such as a road gear assembly, manifold, carb, etc., and I recall many of his parts selling for a high price. After awhile, he was probably left with the remaining 80% of the tractor that nobody really needs, and who knows what he did with it. I can see being able to make a profit if the tractor can be purchased for next to nothing and is complete, not rusted out or mangled or burned up, and it's a make and model that people need parts for. Lots of old iron fans cringe at seeing an tractor being parted out, but as a person with several tractors from the 1930s, most in early stages of restoration, I am grateful for these original parts suppliers.

There is darn good money in parts anywhere you sell them. But you have to know what you are doing, know you brands and what people want, know what parts you have and what they fit and be able to give part numbers. you have to be willing to politely answer all questions and be able to ship in a timly manner. You have to check emails twice daily and be availible by phone. And junk don't sell nowhere.

I myself wouldn't do it. You would sell off mostly the good, fast moving parts and then be stuck with alot of cast iron, trans.cases, rusty wheels, rotten tires, oil and antifreeze etc. to dispose of. You would end up having to crate, ship, transport, and put up with all the BS about the part "wasn't as it was represented","thats not the part I thought I needed"or "it had a dent you didn't tell me about"etc.etc. etc. Most of the yards now are bringing in a tractor, completly knock it down, clean and rack the good parts, and dispose of whats left. You will have local zoning, the EPA,and who knows who else breathing down your neck if some neighbor doesn't like what you are doing and turns you in.

Yes there is, but your late getting started. Atleast in my area anyhow. I haven't gotten a real good buy on a junker in along time. It always seems like everybody is finding cheap junkers but me. My other problem is I f I do get a good buy I don't have the heart to part it out. the parts dealers will cut up a running tractor and not think twice about it because it is worth more in parts.
