Too bad this scam talk can't be dropped . It's definitely old talk , & very tiring reading about it on here so often .Use common sense when selling & buying . Check out the seller & buyer credentials . Buy in America & sell in America . My dad always said if your dumb enough to go into a deal with a blindfold on , well, you deserve the screwin you get . Common sense my man ! God gave it to us all , so use it .

I can't believe this scam thing goes on and on when the smallest amount of common sense and intelligence would make the ridiculous scenario that they use so obvious. 1.why would someone overseas especially in Africa want to buy 25+ yr old equipment to farm with.2. It does not take an einstein to figure the shipping would be unreasonable.3.The purchasers claim to be people that at first glance wouldn't have anything to do with Agriculture or machinery. don't mean to be nasty but the person that said a sucker is born every minute sure was right.

You do seem to be a little arrogant and I don't mean to be nasty.

I recently sold a JD 4020. Prior to selling it I was contacted by a guy in South Africa. He states he will pay for the price of the tractor and asks that if he sent the shipping costs also if I would then forward the money to the shipper to get him in route. This guy was expecting me to receive the (counterfiet cashiers check) and immediately wire money to another guy before anyone realized the check was bogus. I have a hard time believing that anyone would wire money before the money was in the bank, but that is just me.

Alot of bad guys out there, be carefull!!

PS. I played along with the guy and sent all of his info., along with the bad cashiers check to the FTC.

Most of the ones I have run into are real obvious. They are generally foreign of origin and they always are looking for access to your bank account info. That is done under the disguise of doing wire transfers. In most cases the legitimate buyers will call you to establish a relationship with you. Some of them have wanted pictures of wheel weights for instance, that is so stupid and should tell you right away that they are goofy. Checks are okay and anyone who wants your stuff should be able to get a check to you well in advance of the pickup date. This of course then allows you time to have it clear the bank.

If you are unsure of a check, ask your banker to check it out. The FDIC has info on these scams, and a banker should be able to advise you on this.

Just do a search on "scam" lots of info here. Basically if they want to send extra money for you to return to them, it is a scam. They don't want the tractor, just quick money.
