Call Kinze in Iowa, 319-668-1300, ask for Jim Spaid. Or call Cummins, Great Plains in Cedar Rapids, 319-366-7537, ask for Steve Mallicoat. I talked with them some yars ago when I put an 855 in a Case 2470, they should have dimensions of other Cummins engines.

Eric, I just went out and measured my 5.9 as best I could--comes out a shade over 38 " to the bell housing face you'd have to add what ever bell housing you used to the dimension. the one on the Getrag tranny is almost 10" block to tranny. Oh yes its an oldie. '91 to be exact and been a great one I might add . been in the shop once in 110k for valve adjustment. Still new huh??

This may have been better directed to Cummins Engines, or maybe they have installation dimensions on a web site? A few millimetres out could spell big trouble for you?

i have a 1973 ih that the 345 is in need of work. this cool truck just screems for a diesel. if its close we will make it work. just wanting someone to take a tape measure a do the best they can for me. im sure there is a lot of dodge drivers out there. my guess is it will work, but i just thought i would ask first.

I was interested in what kind of IH truck you are
working on. I have a 1972 IH 1310 with 345 in it.
Also have a 1971 IH Loadstar 1600 flatbed dump
with the 345 motor. These engines are good, but like lots and lots of gasoline.

Thanks

its a 1973 1310, i got from a fire dept with 32k miles. we took the rescue body off and had a flatbed made. its a 4x4, with a dana 70 front and what i think is a two ton rear. i like it a lot. the 345 just doesnt get it done. we toyed with the idea of fiting a diesel out of a 706 tractor but kept running into the idea of the 5..9 cummins. they are easily found. any ideas on what a running 345 with 32k on it is worth?

Sounds like a good truck and being from a fire
dept. I bet it was really taken care of. Hope
you have luck getting the cummins diesel in. The
truck I have was used in our company pulling
gooseneck trailer and backhoe. At the time we
used it it was a lot stronger than the other
Ford 1 tons we had. I remember that we had to put another engine in due to overheating and cracking heads. This was before we had all the
diesel 1 tons. We still have the truck and
retired it to farm and shop use. It was just not
economical to run anymore. I do remember that
the rearend seemed larger than the other 1 tons
so maybe it was like yours. I do know it would
carry alot of weight on it with no trouble.
These were good old trucks thats why we kept it
to maybe restore someday. Keep us posted on your progress. Hope you can sell that motor they
were put in alot of IH trucks.

I don't know what it is worth, but if I knew where you lived I may like to buy it for my Scout.

ERic, Where do you live in Ohio, I live in Grand Rapids, MI. Can you email me at my email address nel3@iserv.net instead of using this thread?
