one time I put some IH Hytran fluid in the power steering resivor of a 74 F250 pickup. The pump was low and squealing and when i put the HY Tran in it locked up.

Dump and flush NOW!! I can only imagine what that mix will do. I messed up and put 3 gallons of THF in a NH balewagon which had 12 gallons of R&O in it. Fortunately I didn't use anything but the loader cylinder and motor. It forms a plastic like gelationous mass of disolved seals, oil, and sludge. Only took 24 hrs to form. Took 3 days and $300 to fix.

It is beyond bad! Stop what ever else you are doing and dump and flush it now! Twice! The smallest amount of brake fluid WILL swell all your seals and hoses in a matter of a few HOURS! Used to use a TABLESPOON of it in old automatic transmissions to get them to seal for demolision derbys. They would seal up in a couple hours. A few days and the tranny would be DEAD!

Brake fluid draws water and it cavates badly.

Dont wory about lubrication the seals will fail first you might as well reseal it now and save an inconvenance later when it brakes down

Brake fluid doesn't have the lubricity of hydraulic fluid/oil. You risk heating and scoring of your pump gears and bearings from lack of lubrication.

Yup. Probably about the smae thing to the lines & cylinder - more or less? But the pump itself needs the oiling of hyd fluid, of which brake fliud has little.

Don't wait - brake fluid disolves the seals in a mineral oil system.

I'll suspect you'll start to see all of your hyd seals to start leaking soon. I'd schedule some time to replace any rubber seals in your hyd system soon.

I would flush it sooner than soon!!! My son topped off his floor jack with brake fluid and after a month or so it wouldn't work any longer. I pulled it completely apart and you would not believe the "crud" in there. The oil and alcohol based brake fluid do not mix and you wind up with a mess of "coagulation".
