Hydraulics are used for tons of stuff on machines and tractors. To name many: hydrostatic drive transmissions, cylinders to lift implements, hydraulic motors to turn cement mixers and steel production. Cylinders are used for logsplitters, presses, injection molding. Hydraulics are used in power steering for tractors, also used in cars for automatic transmissions, which of course I could sit here for a week discussing that. Hydraulics are also used in power brakes for cars, trucks. I should stop rambling now. see ya.

Kurt,

Do you have a history with the 4L60? If so, you are on the same level as a highly decorated war-room staff officer. :>)

Weren't those a trip?! :>)

Somebody been procrastinating with their homework??

Ferguson (and Ford under license) tractors were among the first to have hydraulics, but the system was internal, meaning that it could only be used for the patented Furguson system of draft control. Check out this article on YT's web page which gives a really good explanation.

Soon other tractor mfgrs developed similar systems which included external connections so that the hydraulic pump could drive other devices as described by the other guys' posts.

Hope this helps, but next time do your homework on time---just like I always did!! yeah, right...

I think we could expand a bit on Marty's response. Hydraulics are used to lift implements. In a lot of cases, also used to operate the power steering, hydraulic brakes, hydraulic clutch, power shifting, etc. Hope this helps.

Hey Urgent ! What are you using for a text book ? Hydraulic lines are attached to things such as snow blower chutes, hydraulic cylinders on the top link for controlling the angle on a backblade or auxiliary lines could be used to run add-on equipment for a woodsplitter etc. How many marks do I get ??
