Hi All,

Yesterday I changed the oil in my little H that I recently bought.

The old oil must be worth something, being antiqueish and all that; after all, it had to have been in there for over 50 years.

It has about the same consistency as my cement driveway. Don't miss this one; bid early and bid high!! :>)

When you find old oil like this would it be wise to try to wash out the inside of the motor? Have heard of using diesel or other such things to cut doun this tar inside the motor

Jerry,

It was in the rear end; not the motor and yes, I was going to do that flushing thing.

Before I started, I jacked up one side of the tractor, locked the left brake and let that right wheel & differential run in road gear for a long, long time--probably about 45 minutes. Then I put the jack over under the other side and did the same thing with the other side.

So, the oil was fluid when I drained it out; then, it was getting late so I just refilled it with new 85W-140.

I kinda wish I had flushed it after I saw that stuff this morning in the daylight.

When the snow was on the ground two weeks ago, I had to hold the left brake to make the right side pull.....now, I know why.

I'll change it again and flush it in another year's time. It is just going to get loader duty around here anyway.

Thanks for the hollar,

Allan

I bought an old A last week that had set for 20 odd years with a full tank of gas in it. The thought crossed my mind to bottle it and sell it.It had the aroma that only a true tractor afficionado would love.My hopes were dashed when I came into the house and the wife asked what that awful smell was.

It was dark last night when I got done so I left the old oil setting in the drip pan overnight.

It is 33 degrees here this morning; I just tried to empty that pan.

I kid you not, the oil will not pour out of the drip pan!!! It is just like tar.

This is fun. Right? :>)
