I know that a JD-Bis about23 to 27 HP so how big HP wise is a farmall F12, is it bigger or smaller. Also which will handle a 4 foot brush hog better? Both have steel wheels which is a plus where I need to bruch hog, the area has a lot of thorn trees and other things to kill rubber tire tractors. Thanks for your help.

First, any JD on PTO work is a joke. They will jerk and rattle the driveline until it falls apart.

Neighbor tried to run a rotary mower and grain vac with his JD 60, about shook them to pieces!

It is evidant that you have never used a good John Deere, they do not shake, if they do they are not put together corectly, if the clutch discs are not put on the chrankshaft in the proper position then they will run rough and that sounds like what is wrong with that tractor. Used to have 2 AC 60 combines, one PTO pulled by J D a, the other had a Factory AC motor, The shoe in the one broke, dealer said it wes the cause of the Deere, when found out it was the one with the A C motor that shut them up.A 2 cylinder in good shape is as smooth a runner as any 4 or 6 cylinder tractor.

The F12 max speed is about 3 mph, walking speed, so you will be brush hogging all day long. The Deeres have a higher top gear and the horsepower to use it so would make a better choice for that job.

The unstyled JD B ,35-38, will compete direstly with the F12 at depending on using rated or maximum HP @ 12-14; The earlier styled JD B, 39-46, will compete directly with the F14 & C at 16-18 Hp; to have steel wheels it would hahe to be one of the above, The Next series of JD B 47-52, Will combete in power directly with The Farmall H at 27-28 HP with the F20 and regular in the same ballpark. The JD B with steel wheels or the F12-F14 neither have enough power for that, the JD has the 1 1/8" PTO shaft and the F series have a non standard PTO, If you want something to bushhog with on steel wheels look for a war time Farmall H

Lengh and you canot hook to the cross drawbar, you need the rest of the drawbar bracket that sets length and for turning purposes

Both tractors ar around 1935 vintage and both have factory steel wheels, I just want to keep a power line right-a-way brush hogged so its not a big area. May 1000 yards long and 100 foot wide. I have bigger tractors but they all have rubber tires and the thorn trees and rubber don't mix well. The brush hog is a 4 footer.

you say they both have steel wheels, is the B of the same vintage as the F-12? if so it's about the same HP, I would still take the B.

I got a Farmall F12 and a John Deere B. The F12 is a 1934 and the B is a 1951. Lot of diffrence in age and technology. The B is around 25 HP. Ray

The early B developed 9hp. That should compare to the 12 hp the F12 has. The last years the B was built it had 27hp. Depends on the year of the B I would say.
